CONTINUOUS AND
COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION

Examinations are an indispensable part of the

educational process as some form of
assessment is necessary to determine the
effectiveness of teaching learning processes
and their internalization by learners. Various
Commissions and Committees have felt the
need for examination reforms.

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

CONTINUOUS AND
COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION

The Hunter Commission (1882), Calcutta University

Commission or Sadler Commission (1917-1919), Hartog
Committee Report (1929), the Report of Central Advisory
Board / Sargeant Plan (1944), Secondary Education
Commission / Mudaliar Commission (1952-53) have all
made recommendations regarding reducing emphasis on
external examination and encouraging internal
assessment through Continuous and Comprehensive
Evaluation.

PEDAGOGIC EVALUATION

Pedagogic evaluation is an evaluation of

students as they are in classrooms, to
improve teaching and learning.

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

ROLE OF PEDAGOGIC
EVALUATION IN THE CLASSROOM

Strength and weakness of students

Judging students
★Where do these judgement about the students come from ?
★How do a teacher know who can do what?
★Did teacher give students tests to talk to the visitor about them?

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

ROLE OF PEDAGOGIC
EVALUATION IN THE CLASSROOM

Reflections and statements about students cannot

happen without an evaluation. A teacher do it
informally, and we do it while we teach, or when they
are working on something.

It may not happen all the time and we may not be

aware of it, but we do it while we teach, but we do
evaluate more often than we think we do.

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

ROLE OF PEDAGOGIC
EVALUATION IN THE CLASSROOM

Understanding of students is continuous and ongoing

It is comprehensive- it includes information about

their strengths and weaknesses, behaviour and habits
and relationships with other students.

CCE

CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive

Evaluation) is an evaluation of our students
strength and weaknesses, their behaviour
and habits and students interactions with
teacher and their classmates to help us teach
them better

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

FEATURES OF CCE

CCE can be done only by the teacher

The main purpose is to help students learn

better and help teacher to improve teaching

The important part of CCE is the notes we make about

students and how we use the information in them to
help us teach better

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

FEATURES OF CCE

CCE is the evaluation of each one of our students

as individuals, not as a group or a class

Important information for CCE cannot come from our

system-oriented unit tests and quarterly, half-yearly
and final examination results

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

FEATURES OF CCE

CCE recognises that teachers know and evaluate

their students in a very comprehensive manner
Continuous evaluation focuses
on the scholastic aspect of
schooling; comprehensive
evaluation focuses on life skills
and other aspects like
character and behaviour

Dr. Nisanth.P.M, Assistant Professor, Dept of Education, RGU

FEATURES OF CCE

CCE values what teachers have always done

CCE information about individual students is

recorded and not reported by the teacher

✴What they have learnt, or have a problem with

✴Their handwriting or concentration

✴Their behaviour in the classroom or in the playground
