Proposal Outline

Introduction

 Wells Fargo employees required to meet an unrealistic quota, leading them to open

fake accounts and opening accounts without people’s knowledge/ permission.

 My solution to this issue would be to bring in new corporate staff.

 Fire all the top people involved and bring in a whole new corporate staff.

Current Situation

 Forced to meet an unrealistic quota, employees felt panicked and started opening

accounts for made up people, adding on extras to members of the branch, and

doing really anything possible to not be fired.

 Members had overdraft fees and payments they couldn’t keep up with, which

eventually led to them being sent to collections.

 Employees forced to question whether they wanted to do the right thing or feed

their families.

 Certain employees brought these issues to top people in the company, including HR

and nothing was done.

Project Plan

 Removing HR employees and all higher-ups and bringing in new staff will begin

the restructure of the business.

 We will have outside business people who can pinpoint exactly what went

wrong and how they can fix what has happened.

 HR representatives can renew faith in the company for members and bring

back trust with employees.

 Enact more intense ethical training and meet with members of each branch.

 Pay back what was taken from members of branches and compensate

employees for their troubles.

 This will help break down what needs to happen in order to avoid having a

catastrophe like this happen again.

Qualifications

 CEO’s from many successful companies, marketing specialists, and Human

Resources employees.

Costs and Benefits

 Looking at a $1 billion restructure.

 This is going to take 9 months and we will need to hire approximately 100

people.

 This serves the greater good because we are rebuilding the company from

the ground up along with paying back what was lost for members, which

will help rebuild trust between the business and the public. We are also

compensating employees who were forced to choose between what was

right and what they needed to survive.

 This positively impacts the problem because we are removing the bad eggs,

so to speak, from what is going to be a very successful company.

Restructuring the entire system will benefit members, employees, and

owners of the company.

Conclusion

 What happened at Wells Fargo is extremely unfortunate, but I am

hoping that in reviewing my proposal, we can work to improve the

company as a whole and find new ways to better serve our members

and employees.
Reflection

I feel like I did struggle with my personal ethical values because this was a very complex issue. It

was having to decide between doing the “right” thing and not exaggerating your numbers, and

whether or not you want to feed your family. In a situation like this, I think anyone struggles

with deciding which is more important, which makes it such a complex issue. My audience was

other employees who had been wronged by the company and people looking in from the

outside. I wanted to encourage employees of Wells Fargo to act now and help me remove the

corrupt elite from having any sort of hold on this company, but I was also hoping to get

attention from other business people who may want to help rebuild the company. I made the

suggestion that employees be compensated so that it would be an appealing proposal for

employees. I also made it a point to lay out exactly who would need to be hired after firing the

whole corporate section of the company to make it an appealing idea for CEO’s and other

business people who may be looking for a new project and a new way to serve the public. I will

use the format for Project 2 and some of the ethical issues I considered because I am going to

be coming up with a proposal to address two UNM English Department professors who sued for

unequal pay, which falls in the same area of ethics. As far as challenges in this assignment, I

found it a little difficult to come up with a budget and timeline. It wasn’t very difficult to come

up with an idea because it didn’t necessarily have to be perfect, but the timeline and budget

were difficult because I really don’t have any sort of knowledge on what it would take to make

something this big happen.
