Adopt-A-Peer Lesson 2

Objectives

• Student will play from the Standards of Excellence book number 46, “Jim Along Josie” with

correct pitch accuracy and rhythm.

• Student will play from the Standards of Excellence book number 70, “Down in the Valley”

with correct pitch accuracy and rhythm.

Procedures

• Teacher will play a Bb pitch on the piano.

• Student will hum, then buzz the Bb pitch.

• Teacher will review the slide positions for a concert Bb scale and arpeggio.

• Student will play the concert Bb scale and arpeggio as a review.

• Teacher will play an Eb pitch on the piano.

• Student will hum, then buzz the Eb pitch.

• Teacher will review the slide positions for a concert Eb scale and arpeggio.

• Student will play the concert Eb scale and arpeggio as a review.

• Teacher will play first two measures of number 46, “Jim Along Josie,” in a call and response

style.

• Student will repeat the two measures.


• Teacher will play second two measures.

• Student will repeat two measures.

• Teacher will play all four measures.

• Student will repeat all four measures.

• Teacher will give student the book to clarify any note issues.

• Student will play the piece from the book on her own.

• Teacher will play first three measures of number 70, “Down in the Valley,” in a call and

response style.

• Student will repeat the three measures.

• Teacher and student will repeat this exercise for the remainder of the song.

• Teacher will give student the book to clarify any note issues. Student will play the piece from

the book on her own.

Assessment

• Teacher will assess student’s pitch accuracy by using the call and response method and the

student’s ability to match pitch.

• Teacher will assess student’s ability to play rhythms accurately as she reads the music in the

book.
