MUED 304

Adopt-A-Peer Pre-Test

Student: Nanda Azedevo

Instrument: Horn

1. Buzz a siren.

Comments:

Good lower buzz, roll bottom lip under more for higher pitches, seems very tense in the

embouchure and neck.

Score: 6/10

2. Play a one octave concert Bb scale.

Comments:

Initial attack is very forceful and needs a more consistent airstream. Most of the pitches were

incorrect.

Score: 4/10

3. Play a one octave concert Bb arpeggio.

Comments:

Got the pitches going up, lost them on way down, same issues as in the scale.
Score: 5.5/10

4. Play from the Standards of Excellence book number 34, “Farm Out.”

Comments:

Initial attacks are very forced, good rhythm, didn’t hit most of the notes.

2/10

Reflection:

In this pre-test, and in last semester’s Adopt-A-Peer assignment, I believe Nanda’s biggest

problem was her air. In this test I left a space for comments instead of assigning a number

score. This allowed me to better pinpoint specific issues she was having. A reoccurring

problem was the initial attacks of the notes, which I believe is related to her air. Most of the

time her notes came out sounding very forced and in short spurts. Something that I plan to

work on with Nanda in our lessons is breathing and keeping a constant air stream. Another

common issue was pitch accuracy, which is not a common problem on the horn. I will work

with her by asking her to audiate pitches before playing them.
