GENERAL NOTES

1.0. STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS


1.1. ALL WORKS SHALL COMPLY WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND HIGHWAYS GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR ROADS AND BRIDGES 2004, SPECIAL PROVISIONS AND SUPPLEMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS PERTAINING TO THIS PROJECT.

2.0. STATIONING
2.1. STATIONINGS OF THE PROJECT ROADS ARE IN KILOMETERS.

3.0. UNSUITABLE MATERIALS


3.1. UNSUITABLE MATERIALS BELOW THE SUBGRADE SHALL BE EXCAVATED TO A REQUIRED DEPTH & WIDTH AS INDICATED IN THE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PROJECT ENGINEER BASED ON THE LABORATORY TEST RESULTS & BE REPLACED WITH APPROVED

MATERIALS.

4.0. PROPER CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES FOR CONCRETE REBLOCKING (DO29 SERIES OF 1999)
4.1. ADEQUATE BARRICADES AND TRAFFIC WARNING SIGNS SHALL BE INSTALLED AND THE WORKING AREA SHALL BE ADEQUATELY ILLUMINATED AT NIGHT TO WARN MOTORISTS OF ON-GOING CONSTRUCTION.

4.2. CUTTING OF THE DEFECTIVE SECTION SHALL BE DONE ON A PER BLOCK BASIS. THE DEFECTIVE BLOCK SHALL BE CUT USING A CONCRETE SAW TO THE SPECIFIED DEPTH AND SHALL BE BROKEN INTO PIECES USING A PAVEMENT BREAKER (JACKHAMMER).

4.3. SPOILS FROM DEMOLISHED/EXCAVATED MATERIALS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE STOCKPILED AT THE SIDEWALK OR PART OF THE TRAVELLED ROADWAY AND SHALL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT OBSTRUCTION.

4.4. RE-PREPARATION AND COMPACTION OF THE BASE TO THE REQUIRED DENSITY SHALL BE DONE PRIOR TO CONCRETING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, VOLUME II, 2004, USING VIBRATING ROLLERS AND PNEUMATIC TIRE ROLLERS.
IN AREAS WHERE THE SAID EQUIPMENT CAN NOT BE USED, PORTABLE/MECHANICAL COMPACTOR SHALL BE USED.

4.5. AT TRANSVERSE CONSTRUCTION JOINTS, HOLES OF 26MM DIAMETER AND SPACED AT 300 MM SHALL BE DRILLED AT ONE-HALF (1/2) OF THE EXISTING CONCRETE PAVEMENT THICKNESS SO AS TO PERMIT THE LOAD TRANSFER DEVICE (25MM DIAMETER PLAIN DOWEL
BARS) TO BE INSERTED AT ONE-HALF (1/2)OF ITS LENGTH. THE SAID DEVICE SHALL BE INSTALLED FIRMLY AT THE HOLES AND SHALL BE HELD IN POSITION PARALLEL TO THE SURFACE OF THE SLAB. THE DOWEL BARS SHALL BE PAINTED WITH RED LEAD AND THE
SURFACE SHALL BE COATED WITH CONCRETE EPOXY WHILE THE OTHER HALF SHALL BE COATED WITH APPROVED BITUMINOUS MATERIALS.

4.6. TRANSVERSE CONTRACTION JOINTS SHALL BE CUT USING A CONCRETE SAW TO THE REQUIRED DEPTH (ONE-FOURTH TO ONE-THIRD OF THE CONCRETE PAVEMENT THICKNESS) AND WIDTH AS SHOWN ON THE APPROVED PLANS.

4.7. ALL JOINTS SHALL BE SUFFICIENTLY SEALED WITH ASPHALT SEALANT PRIOR TO ASPHALT OVERLAY.

4.8. THE USE OF TYPE III PORTLAND CEMENT MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M-85 FOR HIGH-EARLY STRENGTH MIX OR TYPE I PORTLAND CEMENT WITH ACCELERATING ADMIXTURES CONFORMING TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M-194 SHALL BE USED.

4.9. THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE NEWLY PLACED CONCRETE SHALL BE CURED WITH EITHER ONE OF THE CURING MATERIALS SPECIFIED IN ITEM 708.1 OF THE DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, VOLUME II, 2004.

4.12. ADOPT EXISTING SUPERELEVATION AND WIDENING AT SECTIONS FOR REBLOCKING, HOWEVER IMPROVE IF NECESSARY TO SUIT WITH THE STANDARDS.

5.0. ASPHALT: THE CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WHENEVER APPLICABLE, WITH SECTION 307.3 OF DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS (2004) VOLUME II HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND AIRPORT

5.1. TACK COAT SHALL BE APPLIED ONLY TO SURFACES WHICH ARE DRY OR SLIGHTLY MOIST. NO TACK COAT SHALL BE APPLIED WHEN THE WEATHER IS FOGGY OR RAINY.

5.2. TRAFFIC SHALL BE KEPT OFF THE TACK COAT AT ALL TIMES. THE TACK COAT SHALL BE SPRAYED ONLY SO FAR IN ADVANCE ON THE SURFACE COURSE AS WILL PERMIT IT TO A "TACKY" CONDITION.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN THE TACK COAT UNTIL THE NEXT
COURSE SHALL BE APPLIED. ANY AREA THAT HAS BECOME FOULED BY TRAFFIC OR OTHERWISE, SHALL BE CLEANED AND RESPRAYED AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE BEFORE THE NEXT COURSE IS APPLIED.

5.3. BITUMINOUS PLANT MIX SHALL NOT BE PLACED ON ANY WET SURFACE, OR WHEN WEATHER CONDITIONS WOULD PREVENT THE PROPER HANDLING OR FINISHING OF THE BITUMINOUS MIXTURES.

5.4. IMMEDIATELY BEFORE PLACING THE BITUMINOUS MIXTURE, THE EXISTING SURFACE SHALL BE CLEANED OF LOOSE OR DELETERIOUS MATERIAL BY BROOMING OR OTHER APPROVED MEANS.

5.5. COMPACTION
a. INITIAL ROLLING SHALL BE PERFORMED WITH A PNEUMATIC TIRE ROLLER AND FINAL ROLLING WITH A 3-WHEEL OR TANDEM TYPE WHEEL ROLLER.
b. ROLLING SHALL CONTINUE UNTIL THE SURFACING IS OF UNIFORM TEXTURE AND SATISFACTORY COMPACTION IS OBTAINED.
c. ROLLING SHALL BE DISCONTINUED WHENEVER IT BEGINS TO PRODUCE EXCESSIVE PULVERIZING OF THE AGGREGATES OR DISPLACEMENT OF THE MIXTURE.

5.6. JOINTS
PLACING OF THE BITUMINOUS PAVING SHALL BE CONTINUOUS AS POSSIBLE. ROLLERS SHALL NOT PASS OVER THE UNPROTECTED END OF A FRESHLY LAID MIXTURE UNLESS AUTHORIZED BY THE ENGINEER. TRANSVERSE JOINTS SHALL BE FORMED BY CUTTING BACK
ON THE PREVIOUS RUN TO EXPOSE THE FULL DEPTH OF THE COURSE. WHEN DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER, A BRUSH COAT OF BITUMINOUS MATERIAL SHALL BE USED ON CONTACT SURFACES OF TRANSVERSE JOINTS BEFORE ADDITIONAL MIXTURE IS PLACED
AGAINST THE PREVIOUSLY ROLLED MATERIAL.

5.7. CENTERLINE OF ASPHALT OVERLAY FOLLOW EXISTING ALIGNMENT.

5.8. DESIGN GRADE FOR ASPHALT OVERLAY MUST BE +0.050M & +0.10M FROM EXISTING NATURAL GRADE LINE.

6.0. ALL PAVEMENT MARKINGS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH DPWH STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR REFLECTORIZED THERMOPLASTIC PAVEMENT MARKINGS AND RUMBLE STRIPS.

7.0. PRIOR TO THE START OF CONSTRUCTION, THE AS-STAKED PLAN SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE DISTRICT OFFICE IN ORDER THAT IMMEDIATE STEPS MAY BE TAKEN TO CORRECT OR ADJUST WHATEVER APPRECIABLE DEVIATION THERE MAY BE FROM THE ORIGINAL PLAN.

8.0. THE IMPLEMENTING OFFICE SHALL IDENTIFY THE LOCATIONS OF AND PROVIDE ACCESSIBILITY FACILITIES FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH D.O. 37, SERIES OF 2009.
