-Equality News

2. What is Jared Henley’s job? What was the point of his video he filmed for his school?

- He is a Vice Principal and the athletic director. He filmed this video to show the the
student body, hoping it would stop students from dressing out of dress code. The video
instead made him seem very sexist.

3. What is the definition of Civil Rights?

- The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality.

4. If you get dress coded at Ms. Altomare’s school where were the clothes from that they would
give you to change into?

-The lost and found.

5. What position in Government did Sharice Davids win? Where is she from?

-She who won a place in the House of Representatives in the 3rd district of Kansas.

1. Give an example of another civil rights issue in Modern Day America?

-The LGBT community fighting for equality


2. Based on the example you chose, explain whose civil rights are being affected and how?

- Gays and Trans Americans are being affected by being told what bathroom they can
and can't use or states and parties trying to strip their rights to get married.

3. After watching the video do you believe that dress code infringes on women’s civil rights?
Explain. (This is an opinion based questions, there are no wrong answers.)

- I do especially if women are the ones being blamed, it is not a women's fault that school
wants their shoulders covered because men chose to sexualize them.

4. How do people like Sharice Davids or Ilhan Omar being elected to Congress affect minority
communities?

-This will help minorities in the States (especially Native or Muslim Minorities) feel like
their voice is being heard. It can also make them feel safer now that they know that they
have members in Congress fighting for their civil rights.

5. What civil rights do you as a student have that you feel your school should not be able to take
away from you?

-Dress code: If a student is forced to wear a dress as part of the dress code but that
makes them uncomfortable and self conscious
-Freedom of speech and expression: not letting students have piercings or unnaturally
colored hair
-Taking away property: phones, headphones, hats
