• Fast-moving consumer goods : They do not remain long on supermarket shelves

Companies adopt various strategies to find the best price :
• Penetration pricing : Entering the market with a low price
• Skimming pricing : Entering the market with a high price because the product is new
and has no competitors
• Critical point or odd pricing : Offering a product at a high price to add status to the
product (luxury/upscale brands)
• Discounting : Offering a lower price if payment is cash or if ∅ customers buy in bulk
• Sales are organized at regular periods and price cuts are used at the end of a product
life cycle to get rid of the stock.

Online buying has increased dramatically since the mid 90s.
Selling strategies :
• Intensive strategy : Goods are available in the greatest possible number of stores.
• Selective strategy : Only some stores sell the product without having an exclusive
agreement.
• Exclusive strategy : Store managers must not sell competing brands. These stores are
often franchises.
Promotion :
The promote a product or a brand, advertising is the most widely used method.
Packaging :
It has become crucial in the building of a product or brand image. It serves as a
promotion tool and can boost sales.

Customer Loyalty :
Building customer loyalty is a major issue for companies : it is less expensive to keep old
customers than to find new ones.

gifts, discounts, air miles or vouchers.
Customer loyalty schemes are generally appreciated by the customers. They also allow
companies to establish important data on consuming habits and trends. However,

transmission of personal information.

Important : concerne quelque chose ou quelqu’un qui est important pour quelqu’un. An
important person = une personne qui a de l’influence.
Quand on ne connait pas le sexe d’une personne, on utilise «he or she» ou «they».
Ils arrivent le chapeau sur la tête/la main dans la poche : They arrive with their hats on

Pour indiquer une permission on utilise : «to allow» / «to enable (someone) to do
(something)» / «to let (someone) do (something)». => Cela me permet de : «it allows me to

Ne jamais séparer un verbe de son complément (I love New York very much)
L’adverbe se met la plupart du temps après l’auxiliaire et avant le verbe : I have never been
to Africa.
L’adverbe se met le plus souvent entre les 2 auxiliaires s’il y en a deux : I would never have
been to Africa.
«En» + participe présent se traduit de différentes manières mais si le «en» traduit un
moyen alors on utilisera «by». Exemple : Il a réussit en travaillant => He succeeded by
working.
☞ Either ≠Whether : le premier est exclusif (Soit l’un soit l’autre), le second exprime
différents choix.
☞ «Let» s’utilise pour exprimer une permission ≠leave
☞ To do ∅ research, s’utilise dans le cas de travaux de recherche ≠to do a search = to
look for something = to seek for something
