1. The 34th Sunday concludes the Ordinary Time of the Liturgy Year. On this day is also
celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe.
2. The celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King is traditionally marked with a special
significance by holding a Eucharistic Procession (i.e. procession with the Blessed
Sacrament) around the Church. Kindly observe the following liturgical notes:
2.1 The Eucharistic procession may be held in one of the Masses of the Solemnity, not
excluding the Saturday Vigil Mass (Anticipated), especially where there is a large
group of the faithful participating in the celebration. The celebration follows this
sequence:
2.1.1 After Communion, the Monstrance, which will hold the Blessed
Sacrament is left on the Altar.
2.1.2 After the Post Communion Prayer, the Blessed Sacrament is placed in the
Monstrance and is incensed.
2.1.3 A moment of silence is observed for adoration, after which the presiding
celebrant may lead the people in some prayers.
2.1.4 After another moment of silence, the procession begins. The presiding
celebrant/concelebrating priest/deacon wears the humeral veil.
2.1.5 Ministers carrying incense, cross and candles precede the blessed
Sacrament. Ministers carrying the canopy surround and accompany the
one carrying the Monstrance. The faithful then follow.
2.1.6 It is highly recommended that the Eucharistic procession be done in
silence to maintain focus on the act of adoring the Blessed Sacrament.
2.1.7 After the procession has reached the Church, the Monstrance is left
exposed on the Altar, and is incensed.
2.1.8 After the incensation, the Benediction is held in place of the final blessing.
The celebration ends with the reposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
3. The Eucharistic procession is not obligatory for the celebration of the Solemnity of Christ
the King, but it is always laudable to observe the ritual with the community present. In
cases, however, where the Eucharistic procession is hindered by circumstances, such as the
difficulty to hold it within the vicinity of the Church, a prolonged adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament may be observed instead of the procession. It is important to be reminded that
the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament should not be done for the sole purpose of
Benediction.
3.1 If the option to have the prolonged Eucharistic adoration will be used by the parish,
they may adapt either the Christic Prayer or the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy (see
attached Recommended Prayers during the Procession). The prolonged adoration
is between fifteen (15) minutes to one (1) hour.
