Students will be able to measure using cubes. Introduction: Smart board.
LC1: papers with pictures of things on it, cubes, chair, table,
Students will be able to differentiate between tall and short. pencil, paint brush, cubes.
LC2: cubes.
Students will be able to make tall and short shapes. LC3: cubes, boxes, wood blocks.
LC4: cubes, resources in the role play area.

 I will start by asking questions (what do you think  Do you need to measure?

 After a short discussion I will tell them that it’s
about measuring using cubes.

Active Engagement: (Bullet points)

 At the carpet I will call one student to stand up and
we will all try to measure her using cubes.
 I will ask them all to count together how many cubes
is she.

I will start the lesson by asking questions such as What is our lesson today about? Why do you think it is about
this topic? Do you think we need to learn this?

Our lesson today is going to be about measuring using cubes. Do you know what is measuring? (students learned
about measuring previously so they will be able to answer this question)

You did learn about measuring earlier but today we are going to learn about measuring using cubes!
I will build two towers one short and one tall and, I will ask the students which tower is long and which tower is
short. I will call three students with different heights I will let them stand beside each other and I will ask the
students which one is the tallest, and which one is the shortest.

On the mat I will ask the students to make a circle and I will call one student to stand in the middle and we will
try to measure her using cubes.
I will explain the activities and send the students to play.
Individual experience - Small Group Learning Centers: Time15 – 20 min.

Measure stuff in your classroom: Let’s measure our friends:

I will provide papers that have pictures of a table, chair,
pencil, paint brush.
And the students will have to measure those things and
write in the boxes how many cubes they used for each
object.
Students will have the cubes and they will try to do
what we did earlier on the mat, they will measure each
other using cubes.

Measure the airport: Build a tower:

Students will have to measure the things in the role play Students will have to build a tower using boxes or
area which is the airport and draw what they measured wooden blocks and measure it using cubes.

Closing activity: Time: 5-7 minutes

I will sing clean up and turn on and off the lights and the students will start cleaning up and sit back at the carpet.

Assessment for Learning:

I will assess the students during the activities using a checklist.
I will also ask them during the activities which one is the longest? Which one is the shortest?
