II. RATIONALE

Japan, undoubtedly, is one of the few countries with the most humongous influence to the
primitive as well as to the modern world. With the country’s rich and colorful culture, it is not
anymore surprising that it has been embraced by many people across the globe, including the
Filipino youth who have gained interest in Japan’s stimulating music, arts, literature, and even
language through the infamous animes and TV shows that clearly depict Japan’s distinctive way
of living. Thus, it is just right to say that culture is one factor that separates one country from
another, yet it is also one aspect that can bring us together. Exposure to the culture of another
country is also a way for us Filipinos to appreciate our own ethnicity, that is, by making us realize
our true essence and identity as Filipinos. Also, exposure to other culture is one interesting means
to kindle the Filipino kids’ love for learning.

With this, the Ateneo Sarong Bangui Junior Eagles (ASBJE) Club, in line with Education as one of
its areas of concern, with the Kwansei Gakuin University UeHabi (RIN Team 13.1) Nishinomiya,
Hyogo, Japan, through Mr. Leo O. Borras of the Center for Community Development (CCD) will
be holding the RIN 13.1: Share the World Learning Work Camp 13. It primarily endeavors to
promote friendship and cultural exchange among the members as well as to spread joy and
hope among Bicolano pupils and at the same time help develop their unlimited potentials.

Indeed, the RIN 13.1: Share the World Learning Work Camp 13 is a great avenue for all the
proponent and partner organizations involved to work hand in hand in line with selfless service,
that is, by genially upholding education through simple yet solid ways.

III. OBJECTIVES
The project primarily aims:
 To share, advance, and exchange the rich and diverse culture of Japan and the
Philippines by introducing each other’s culture through the homestay program;
 To build bridges of communication between two different cultures (Philippines & Japan)
by building friendship among the organizations’ members, ultimately immersing and
exposing them with each country’s distinct way of life, and;
 To foster friendship and learning not only among the Filipino and Japanese student-
volunteers but most especially with the Filipino Families, by conducting fun and
interactive activities.

IV. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION & COMPONENTS

Japanese Student-Volunteers Home Stay

This program aims to immerse and expose the Japanese student-volunteers to the typical Filipino
family setting and have deeper understanding of the Filipino customs and tradition. A pair of
Japanese student-volunteers will stay with a host family for a day and let them live like an
ordinary Filipino. Hence, they can bring memories, lessons, and Filipino values worthy of
emulation that they can share to their fellow Japanese and their community.
