Career Guidance Program

Theme: “Making the Right Choice:
Your Actions Today Will Affect Your Career Tomorrow”
September 07, 21, 28 & October 12, 2018

“Career can make or break a person and the people around him/her” (Dr. Imelda
Virginia G. Villar, Career Counseling in the Philippines).

The Guidance and Counseling Center has developed a Career Guidance

Program this school year 2018 - 2019. The program was done for us, guidance
counselors and teachers, to help and guide our students with career planning and
decision – making very early in life. Career decision – making requires thorough thinking
including how the students have developed through the years, where they are at
present, and where they want to go. It is but right that the students be helped to work on
career planning.
In this year’s Career Guidance Program with the theme “Making the Right
Choice: Your Actions Today Will Affect Your Career Tomorrow” is intended for Grade 11
Senior High School students of assisting them on their career choices and decision –
making in relation to the K to 12 Curriculum. Also, with the integration of the St.
Benilde’s Core Values: Competence, Discipline, Initiative, Service and Teamwork and
its Philosophy: “Doing Ordinary Things in Extra-Ordinary Ways”, the students will be
aware, realize and work out their future careers.
The SHS students were guided by the Guidance Counselor as well as their
advisers in their weekly activities.. The SHS students were expected that they will
become aware of different career jobs and opportunities and lead them to appreciation
of the various careers.
The program started last September 7, 2018 with the activity Career/Professional
Costume Making with the use of recycled materials like plastics, newspaper, papercups
and others. The students showed their creativity and resourcefulness as well as their
determination, perseverance and confidence in making and presenting their costumes.
During the event the Accountance, Business and Management Strand was declared as
the winner or best in making the professional costume.
September 21, 20018 was the second week of the Career Program. The activity
was Propfessional Paper Doll Making. Again, the students showed creativity in making
their paper dolls. Gilbert Llanzana of Home Economics Strand and Ma. Rofe Khate
Baquiran were awarded as having the best paper doll during the activity.
The third activity which was held on September 28, 2018 was the Resume
making. The advisers, Miss Iszel Ann Benosa and Mr. Fernando Balbas, taught and
guided the students in making the resume. With this activity, the students were able to
learn how to make a resume which will be used in the future as they started to enter the
world of works. The 4 best resumes were made by Arlene Shayne Balmeo of Gas
Strand, Barbie Boyles of HE Strand, Mel ROlse Gonzales of ICT Strand and Rose Ann
Joyce Perea of ABM Strand.
On Culminating Day, October 15, 2018, Career Speakers were able to share
their expertise and somehow encouraged the students to continue doing their best and
achieving their dreams. The speakers were Miss Joan Pasoquin, Business and
Management Department Head, Miss Mary Joanne Olino, Information and
Communication Technology Department Head, Mr. James Raphael Santiago, Tourism
and Hospitality Department Assistant Coordinator, Ms. Christine Valdez, PNP Crime
Laboratory, Mr. Richard Galang, Corporate Legal Assistant of Teleempire Inc., and Mr.
Joseph J. Tabirara, St. Benilde President.
The 1st Career Guidance Week is indeed a great success. Seeing the students
enjoyed and participated in the program proves the success of the different activities.
We know that they learnt a lot and in some ways, we have helped them in making the
right choice for their future careers.
