A vision that Zechariah saw -flying through the land

The Book of the prophet Zechariah contains some symbolic visions
shown to the prophet that are seemingly similar to the Book of Revelation. These are prophecies in symbolic form- leading up to the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of God upon the earth. With this writing I am concentrating on the vision of the Flying Scroll. The Bible is a combination of scrolls. There were no ‘books’ in the times of the biblical authors. Books are a more recent means of recording and publishing. The scrolls of the biblical authors were gathered and placed in book form several centuries ago. The flying scroll that Zechariah saw was quite large. Its dimensions were given in cubits. A cubit measurement is calculated by measuring from the tip of a man’s middle finger to the bottom of his elbow. The basic cubit is 20.24 inches, called the common cubit. There is also a sacred cubit with a measurement of 21.888 inches. First let us read the scriptural account of the flying scroll vision contained in Zechariah chapter 5- “I looked again and there before me was a flying scroll. 2) And he asked me “What do I see”? I answered “I see a flying scroll, 20 cubits long and 10 cubits wide”. (34’x17’approx.) 3) And he said to me, “This is The Curse that is going out over the face of the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished (swept away, destroyed), and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished. 4) The Eternal Almighty declares, “I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by My Name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones”. This curse deals with three of the Ten Commandments pertaining to stealing (theft) bearing false witness (lying) while taking God’s Name in vain. However, a magnification of God’s Law would show all of the commandments being broken-you are not loving God or your neighbor by stealing or lying by falsely swearing to God that you are telling the truth. Being a thief does not always mean stealing from a store or your neighbor’s house- selling something that is dishonestly portrayed is just the same (see car salesmen, tv commercials for products, etc.,.). For politicians it would involve using tax monies for your personal enrichment and lifestyle. Lately in America we have seen many witnesses coming forth and swearing on a Bible to tell the truth about certain political appointees. Later they seem to disappear and their ‘witnessed’ account is deemed lacking truth. To put your hand on God’s Word and swear by His Name to tell the truth and then fabricate a tale and blatantly lie to ruin a person’s life is a very serious offense. Some of these people even receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in payment for their lie! God is not mocked. What one sows they will reap. The curse goes out throughout the earth in the symbol of the flying scroll. The lying witness, the vain user of God’s Name and the thief are under a curse.
