EDSA Radio and TV Company

Bong Tadiwan founded a small radio manufacturing plant in EDSA in 1991. This
business grew to become one of the nation's largest radio, TV, and appliance
production companies. By 1999, its sales approached P300 million annually with
15, 000 employees and 10 manufacturing plants. Throughout the company's
growth, the founder was its active, imaginative, and driving force. In earlier days,
he knew every manager and worker and called them by their first names. When
the company grew fairly larger, people still felt that they knew the founder and
president, and this strong feeling of personal loyalty helped make for the absence
of a company union.
However, as the company prospered. Bong Tadiwan worried that it was losing its
"small company" spirit. He also worried that his philosophies and objectives were
not understood by the employees and that duplications take place because of
poor communication of company policies among workers, thus affecting the
development and marketing new products.

I. Viewpoint

In this case, the one who came up of a solution to the problem of EDSA Radio and
TV Company in terms of communication problem and the thought of the absence
of "small company" spirit was Bong Tadiwan. Therefore, Bong Tadiwan is our
viewpoint.

II. Statement of the Problem

Bond Tadiwan was worried that it was losing its "small company" spirit. He was
also worried that his philosophies and objectives were not understood by the
employees and that duplications take place because of poor communication of
company policies among workers, thus affecting the development and marketing
of new products. So how will Bong Tadiwan, the Founder and the President solve
its communication problem in his company?
III. SWOT Analysis

 Strengths
- When the company grew larger, people still felt that they knew the founder and
president, and this strong feeling of personal loyalty helped make for the absence
of a company union.
- Employees can express and discuss their appeals, opinions and inputs because
they feel they knew the president of the company.

 Weaknesses
- Bong Tadiwan, founder of EDSA Radio and TV Company, observed that his
philosophies and objectives were not understood by all the employees working in
the company.
- Lack of enough guidance and supervision from the president
- Communication gap

 Opportunities
- Bong Tadiwan saw a chance to solve the problem coming from his company like
lack of communication and absence of its "small company spirit" for the great
improvement of it.

 Threats
- If the problem is not given an effective solution, it will cause for the downfall of the
company.
- Workers will take advantage of the situation and will not work effectively thus
affecting the development and marketing of new products.
- Competition in the area might take advantage of the problem.
IV. Alternatives Courses of Actions

Alternative # 1

A. Conduct a seminar that is all about developing and improving the


communication between the employees and the president.

 Advantages
- It can improve the communication between the employees and the president
- Helps with team building relations and get to know employees.
 Disadvantages
- Time Consuming to conduct seminar.
- Additional expenses

Alternative # 2

B. Reduce its employees/workers.

 Advantages
- The president can handle the employees easily.
- Communication is much better.

 Disadvantages
- The workload per person will double.
- Morale might get hurt because of reducing employees.

Alternative # 3

C. Hire a director of communication who will report to the manager/boss.

 Advantages
- It will be easy for the manager/boss to know about what is happening in the
company when a director reported to him.

 Disadvantages
- If the information given by the director might be wrong. Also, the director being
irresponsible is another disadvantage
V. Conclusion

The most effective alternative course of action is conducting a seminar meeting for
the concern of the subordinates' performances. With regard to the factors that
affects the recommended alternative course of action, its expense will not affect
the income of the company because there will be no use of big amount of money.
In terms of its quality, it is one of the easiest ways to have an open communication
inside the company. In addition to this, its effectiveness will be felt by many
subordinates because it will let them express their feeling in the whole environment
of the company.
Lastly, the satisfaction for the both parties is met because they already had a good
and clear communication in solving the problem which leads to the continuous
growth of the company.

VI. Recommendation

Alternative # 1
Conduct a seminar which is all about developing and improving the communication
between the employees and the president. it is one of the easiest ways to have an open
communication inside the company. In addition to this, its effectiveness will be felt by
many subordinates because it will let them express their feeling in the whole environment
of the company.

 Advantage
The advantage of this alternative is that it is a very effective way to communicate with the
subordinates or manager/boss because every concern will be discussed clearly and both
parties can also express their feelings personally. It will improve communication between
employees and the president of the company.

 Disadvantage
The disadvantage of this alternative is that when an emergency comes up either to the
manager/boss or the subordinates, a cancellation of the meeting could happen. Also it is
very time consuming.
