SAFETY PRECAUTION

i. Exercise caution when opening transmission housings and working on the electrical
circuits. There is a danger of electric shock. Make sure to disconnect the equipment
from the mains beforehand. This type of work should only be performed by qualified
personnel.
ii. Before connecting the display and control unit to the mains, ensure that the device is
off and the target-value potentiometer is at its lowest setting.
iii. Danger of injury by rotating parts.
iv. Always turn off the equipment before re-assigning power and datacables.
v. Only change the direction of rotation at astandstill.
vi. The brake must not be overheated, even though it is equipped with thermal
protection.Onn oaccount should the brake be subjected to continuous slip page for
indefinite periods.
vii. When operating the magnetic powder brake, ensure that its maximum permissible
temperature is not exceed.

SHUTDOWN FOR SAFETY PURPOSES

1. Set the brake’s excitation current to zero by turning down (clockwise) the
current (I) and then press off the switch current.

2. Set the motor control potentiometer to zero by turning down (clockwise) the
speed (rpm) and then press off the switch motor.
3. Turn off the equipment and disconnect it from the mains network
1. PROCEDURES

Experiment 1 : recording a torque vs current characteristic

i. The drive unit is turn on and drive unit is setting to the required speed.
ii. The excitation current by means of the potentiometer on the magnetic powder brake
control unit is set with using a spring balance . the holding force of the magnetic
powder brake on the lever arm is determined.
iii. During recording of the measurement values, the current is set from zero to its
maximum limit and decrease it back to zero.
iv. The valus in table 1 and table 2 is noted down

Experiment 2 : determine the efficiency of 2 stage spur gear and single stage worm gear

i. The drive unit (spur gear) is setting

ii. The speed motor is setting at 1520rpm and excitation current at 0.32A
iii. The motor holding force F1 and brake holding force F2 is recorded to the data
iv. The driving torque and efficiency is calculated using the formula given
v. Drive unit (worm gear) is repeated followed by step 2 to 4.
START-UP(WARM-UP)

1. Align the motor, transmission and brake on the frame and fasten them
at the bottom by means of the clamping levers.
2. Establish the line connection between the motor and the display and
control unit. The connection socket is located on the control unit’s
rearpanel.
3. Connect the mains cable. The drive unit is now ready for operation.
4. Turn on the motor and adjust the speed.
5. Connect the display and control unit and brake by means of the cable.
6. Turn on the display and control unit and brake.Adjust the excitation current.
7. Once these steps have been completed, the motor is ready foroperation.
