Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies,

which provides the framework of this study.

Foreign Literature

According to Human Resources of University of Louisiana, the

Performance Evaluation System is a tool used to measure individual

performance and to develop employees into high-performing individuals. It

applies to all classified employees and the current system is effective July 1,

2012. Performance evaluations are maintained in the Human Resource

Department in employee confidential personnel files. Completed forms must

be available upon request to the Department of Civil Service for auditing

purposes.

According to Creative Common Liscense (2011), A performance

evaluation system is a systematic way to examine how well an employee is

performing in his or her job. There are four reasons why a systematic

performance evaluation system should be implemented. First, the evaluation

process should encourage positive performance and behavior. Second, it is a

way to satisfy employee curiosity as to how well they are performing in their

job. It can also be used as a tool to develop employees. Lastly, it can provide

a basis for pay raises, promotions, and legal disciplinary actions.


Local Literature

According to the University of Connecticut, the launched of their

system since the spring of 2013, that was called the Online Student

Evaluation of Teaching makes them evaluate in class or outside the class

using smartphones, tablets or laptops through the mobile and web-app.

Foreign Studies

According to a study from Jordanian University, the first to address

student evaluation of faculty members (SFE) from a student perspective at a

major Jordanian public university using a comprehensive (71-item)

questionnaire administered to 620 undergraduates. The results reveal that

most students prefer online evaluation, adopt academic rather than

interpersonal criteria in their evaluation, have a low level of satisfaction with

the impact of previous evaluations on faculty teaching behaviours and the

evaluation instruments used at their institution.

Local Studies

According to a study entitled “Web-based Teachers’ Performance

Evaluation with Responsiveness in Mobile Devices Platform for Mandaue

City College”, their system allows and helps the campus director and

Human Resource are able to monitor the progress of the students by

departments who presently done their evaluation. The system can import

the excel file format that the current enrollment system exports, however,

excel formatting fields preference should be followed.

According to Arias (2014), Teacher’s Evaluation System are providing

quality service, educational institutions conduct regular Teachers’


Evaluation. This system help the students, parents and school attain and

maintain everybody’s desire to produce quality education. Such evaluations

assess the teaching force’s performance for compliance to standards and

effect improvements if necessary.
