Year 1
Year 2
The placement unit should facilitate a deeper understanding of the business and an opportunity
to hone your perspective.
You are encouraged from the outset to put business into a variety of organisational and operating
situations and to be aware of the changing nature of the management functions within which
business operates.
The course uses a range of appropriate assessment types to ensure the validity and fairness of
assessment. Formative assessment is used to provide feedback to you and support your
progress while diagnostic assessment is used to assess students’ current knowledge or skills.
Summative assessment for most units includes a combination of coursework, presentations,
tests, or examination.
Most units include elements of individual and group work to reflect the type of work undertaken in
business and management. Assessment focuses on tasks that develop vocational skills,
underpinned by subject knowledge. The placement is assessed via the submission of a portfolio.
All coursework has an assignment specification, with grading criteria which is normally issued to
you at the beginning of the year, but at least 3 weeks prior to the deadline. All marked work is
returned to you following the University guidelines, with written feedback, including advice on
how to improve your work.
On completing this course you will be likely to progress into positions of Human Resource,
Operations, or General Management within large organisations or may start your own business.
You would have the knowledge and skills required to start and develop a new business and
understand the complexity in growing and expanding your own business.
If you decide to go for further study the BA (Hons) in Business Management will enable you to
attend taught masters courses in Business Administration, Business and Management, Human
Resource Management and Project Management as well as professional accreditation courses
such as the ones offered by CMI, CIPD, CIM, ACCA, CIMA and APM or a PGCE in applied
business as well as research degrees.
