Grade 8 Science
Date: July 17, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson student should be able to:
1. identify situations in which work is done and in which no work is done;
2. describe how work is related to force and energy;
3. calculate the amount of work done.
II.LEARNING TASK
A. Topic : Work and Energy
B. References
Science Learner’s Module
By Maria Helen D. H. Catalan, Ph.D., pp. 21-24
C. Materials
PowerPoint presentation, Visual aids, Calculator, Images
D. Concept
Work is done when the force (F) applied to the object causes the object to have
displacement (d) in the same direction as the force applied. The symbol for work is
capital W.
E. Skills
identifying, describing, determining

C. Generalization
1. How can we identify if there is work done or there is no work done?
2. Explain how to compute work.
3. Explain how work is related to force and energy.

D. Application
The students will be group into four (4), each group will have a puzzle picture and
a question to solve at the back of the paper after doing the puzzle. After performing the
activity they will present the answers to the class.

IV. EVALUATION:
1. Sheila has just arrived at the airport and is dragging her suitcase to the luggage check-
in desk. She pulls on the strap with a force of 190 Newton force to displace it 45 m to
the desk. Determine the work done by Sheila on the suitcase.
2. A new conveyor system at the local packaging plan will utilize a motor-powered
mechanical arm to exert an average force of 890 N to push large crates a distance of 12
meters determine the work done by the conveyor.
3. A player kicks a ball with a force of 5 Newton force. The ball travels 10 meters. What
is the total work?
V. ASSIGNMENT
TOPIC: Work and Energy
Guide Questions:
1. What is kinetic energy?
2. What is the formula in finding kinetic energy?
3. What is potential energy?
4. What is the formula in finding potential energy?
