Abstract
● Ricardo Rodriguez is the student that I have
observed
● He is 10 years old
● He is in the 5th grade
● He is growing in all developmental
categories for an elementary student of his
age
Physical
Observed Recommendations
● Support health and safety by paying
● Imitates older teens attention to his surroundings when he is
● Has improved agility doing an outdoor activity (Center for
● Is experiencing a growth spurt Disease Control and Prevention, 2017)
● Does things that annoys parents ( makes ● Provide good nutrition, such as fruits and
clicking noises) vegetables (University of Washington, 1993)
● Be more understanding, when he does
things by mistake

Ricardo meets Snowman’s physical description for elementary students. Ricardo is developing
more bone and muscle than fatty tissue. He is a thin child, obesity is unlikely at the moment.
Emotions
Observed Recommendations
● Allow him to be creative with clothing
● Self image is very important to him ● Use appropriate discipline without being
● Mood swings happen often rude (Center for Disease Control and
● Concerns about what others may think of him Prevention, 2017)
● Main concern is school and peer ● Provide reassurance as needed (University
relationships (University of Washington, 1993) of Washington, 1993)

Ricardo meets and exceeds Snowman’s emotional characteristics for an elementary grade student. He is
building a complex self image. Before he sleeps, he picks out his clothes and, when he wakes up, he
combs his hair to his liking.
Cognitive/Intellectual
Observed Recommendations
● Encourage him to speak about his passions
● Argues about things he is passionate of ● Assist him with homework; provide tangible
(video games & cars) problems that he has experienced or can
● Does not like math imagine (Snowman, 2013)
● Likes to finish his homework before the
weekend.

According to Jean Piaget, Ricardo should be at the Concrete Operational stage. He should
now be capable of operations by mainly generalizing from concrete experiences. From my
observation, he is on track with Piaget’s stages.
Social
Observed Recommendations
● Spend quality time with the student
● Loves to play board games (University of Washington, 1993)
● Establishes and maintains satisfying ● Allow him to build social skills (with adults’
relationships (Medline, 2018) supervision)
● Experiences peer pressure (Center for ● Explain to him that sometimes it is okay to

According to Erik Erikson, Ricardo should be in the Industry Versus Inferiority level. He should
now learn how to become a productive person with tasks that require mental effort for long
periods of time. I believe he is learning to become a productive student; he manages his time
well.
Moral
Observed Recommendations
● Always wants things to go the right way (his ● Talk with him and tell him that sometimes
way) things are out of our control
● Has a clear goal for the future ● Encourage him to organize and develop a
● Believes rules are flexible (Snowman & plan that meets his goals
McCowan, 2013) ● Provide consequences to help him learn from
his mistakes (Child Development Institute,
2015)
According to Kohlberg, Ricardo leans more towards the Morality of Cooperation. Since he is 10
years old. He should now be aware of different viewpoints and should begin to establish his
own definition of moral wrongness. Based on my observation, Ricardo is beginning to develop
Morality of Cooperation. He sometimes finds loopholes to the rules at home.
