1. If you were to create this Integrated Curriculum, what would be your topic that is
place-based and why?
If I were to create this Integrated Curriculum, my place-based topic would be the birds of
Kawainui Marsh. Kawainui Marsh is located in Kailua, Oahu and is one of the largest remaining
wetlands on the Hawaiian islands. It is home to four endangered species of native Hawaiian
water birds. This wetland is currently being restored. I chose this topic because it focuses on the
importance of takinging care of local land and the animals that are unique to Hawaii.

2. What would be your learning objectives for the Historical/Geological Perspective on

the topic of your choice?
For the Historical Perspective, the learning objectives are:
● To teach the history and evolution of Kawainui Marsh
● To teach about the roots of the native Hawaiian waterbirds

3. What would be your Geographical Perspective on the topic of your choice?

For the Geographical Perspective, the learning objectives are:
● To develop awareness of the location of Kawainui Marsh
● To stimulate interest in ecological awareness for local land

4. What would be your Scientific Perspective on the topic of your choice?

For the Scientific Perspective, the learning objectives are:
● To teach the habitat of the Hawaiian waterbirds
● To teach the survival characteristics of the Hawaiian waterbirds
● To teach the body parts of a bird

For the Cultural Perspective, the learning objective is:
● To demonstrate the connection and impacts that humans have on the local environment
