In this lesson, the students reinforce the negative form of the simple present with auxiliaries don’t / doesn’t. This need is supported by the fact that students have trouble remembering that auxiliaries call for base forms in negative statements.
This lesson revisits the topic of making questions and starts with a fluency activity for students to ask their partners WH questions with main verbs. Students also work on their writing skills and they analyze a simple rubric for writing so they are more aware of what is expected from them when writing a short paragraph.
Finally, the students start preparing a presentation on science topics, after reading short science articles on scientific topics like biology and ecology. This short project is not necessarily connected to target language they study on the course. The articles are from the magazine Exploring the Planet, and they were sent to the students by the US Embassy, which sponsors the program; and it’s a requirement.
