Enduring Idea or Big Idea: The students will learn a new way to create designs and use nontraditional
materials and make a functional scarf while also learning about dyeing techniques found in Africa.
Student Prior Knowledge: They may have never used any dyeing technique, so it is important to
review safety and give specific instruction, so they don’t get lost or hurt themselves.
Teaching Methods: I will model each step in the process and give a presentation with step by step
instructions.

Final Product Rubrics:
Differentiation: If I have a student with a hearing impairment, I will make sure to communicate with
the student oneonone or give them a handout so they can read along when I’m lecturing and make
sure they understand what the project is, what is expected of them and make sure they are caught up
with the other students so they can participate in the project.
Extender: For those who finish early I am going to give them a booklet with some embroidery
techniques and allow them to practice embroidering and possibly even make another scarf or dye
some fabric to embroider on.
