LED TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Quick Tips:
• Which category does your issue fall under:
- Never Worked
- Worked before but stopped working
• Document the issue
- Take photos
- Troubleshoot and record results
• Check common causes first (incoming power, loose connections, compatibility of systems, etc)

Problem - Flickering or Flashing Light

Is the problem limited to only a section of the fixture or to the whole fixture? LED products that are experiencing flickering or flashing of
light is likely caused by one of the below scenarios:
• Incorrect Voltage or Dimmer Load
• Incompatible Dimmer
• Occupancy Sensor / Control Rated Wattage

Incorrect Voltage or Dimmer Load

Check the input voltage of the driver and then check the actual voltage being delivered to the fixture. Incorrect loading of LED
drivers or dimmers may cause issues with flicker, it is important to verify maximums and minimum loads. For 0-10v dimming, see
the below troubleshooting procedure. Contact factory with results.
Troubleshooting: 0-10v Drivers and Dimmer Control Procedure
• Disconnect the purple and gray wires from the controller
• Turn on the lights
• Test fixture slide, record results
• Test controller slide, record results

• Measure the AC and DC voltages on the purple to gray • Dimmer Overload
from the fixtures - Check max load for your dimmer. Inrush current
- AC should be < 0.5V can reduce the actual load that a dimmer can support
- DC should be between 9V and 11V by as much as 1/5. Try cutting the dimming load,

• If the voltage from purple to gray is < 9.9VDC dimming switch
- Isolation the purple and gray for half of the fixture, - AC should be less than 1/2V
and test each half - DC should be controllable from 0V to 10V
- Typically one half will read the lower voltage and - Controller range might be limited to 1V to 9V.
the other half will be greater than 9.9VDC This is the active dimming range. Over shoot
- The half with the lower voltage has the wiring issue assures that all controllers can reach maximum and
(i.e. purple / gray wires reversed in the circuit) minimum brightness levels.
- Just on mis-wired driver can pull the voltage down - For fixtures that are flickering on the low end of the
to 7.5V or less dimming range, adjust the low end until flickering stops.
• Short the purple and gray wires
- Confirm that fixtures dim to minimum level

Incompatible Dimmer
If the LED driver is not compatible with the dimming control then issues with flicker are likely to occur. See below list for standard
0-10v dimming driver compatibility.

Note: The absence of a dimmer from this chart does not necessarily imply incompatibility. Please reference the dimmer manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

Dimming Control Device Rated Wattage

If the total load controlled by the dimming control device (e.g. occupancy sensor or photo sensor) does not meet the minimum
rated wattage of the control device than flicker may occur. You will need to either add additional fixtures to the circuit in order
to meet the required wattage or replace the control device with one that has a lower wattage requirement.

Problem - Fixture Not Lighting

Is the problem limited to only a section of the fixture or to the whole fixture? LED
products that are not lighting up when connected to power is likely caused by one
of the below scenarios:
• Incorrect Wiring
• Broken Connectors
• Defective / Damaged LED
• Defective / Damaged LED Driver

Incorrect Wiring
Incorrect or loose wiring between the LED boards and the LED driver or
between the incoming power to the LED fixture. Make sure all voltages
are correctly matched and that circuit breakers and control switches are
turned on. Make sure all wires and quick connects are properly installed. Make sure to check all electrical connections at the LED
board, LED driver, and incoming power. Check all wiring involving the driver including input and grounding, dimming circuits,
emergency backup devices or generator transfer devices.

Correct any anomaly found in the wiring. Crossed or touched wires may cause product damage. If the problem persists after
wiring has been corrected, then the LED board or driver may be damaged.

Broken Connectors
Improper installation and mishandling of internal LED components commonly leads to broken
connections. Certain mounting requirements (surface ceiling, surface wall, surface bottom, and
mullion block) or fixture configurations (joining of rows) require removal of internal gear trays. If
removal of these trays is not performed in a careful manner then connections will likely break.
Breakage of connectors is most commonly caused when trays are left hanging by wiring from
the fixture housing, removed / re-installed with excessive force, or placed in a careless location
within the construction site. Contact the factory to request a replacement LED board(s) to
correct the issue.

Defective / Damaged LED
Excessive vibrations, moisture, chemical / aerosol contamination, electrostatic discharge and improper handling can lead to
defect or damage of the LED board. Take care when handling LED boards and limit potentially damaging electrostatic discharge.
Static protection measures include:
• Wear cotton gloves and avoid touching metallic components when handling LED boards
• Wear conductive footwear, such as ESD grounding heel straps or work on a static control mat. Avoid boards coming
into contact with clothes, hair, or other insulators (e.g. carpet)
• Keep LED boards away from screwdrivers or other tools that are not ESD certified.
• Individual LED boards should be kept separated during storage (leave board in original packaging and do not allow
boards to touch each other).
Please inspect the LED board(s) completely and take photographs for documentation purposes in filing a warranty claim. Contact
the factory for a replacement board, include photograph with LED part number. LED warranty for a period of 5 years.

Defective / Damaged LED Driver

LED drivers have a specified input voltage. Incorrect voltage will cause damage to the driver. Incorrect wiring and poor electrical
connections can also cause damage to the LED driver. Check the input voltage of the driver (120v, 277v, or 347v). Check the
voltage being delivered to the fixture (120v, 277v, or 347v). Record results and contact factory if correct voltage is not being met.

Please take photographs for documentation purposes in filing a warranty claim and to help with organizing the correct replacement
driver. Contact the factory for a replacement driver, include photograph with driver part number and sticker with tuning information.
LED drivers are covered under warranty for a period of 5 years.

Problem - LEDs Are Yellowed or Discolored

LED products that are yellowed or discolored over time are likely due to:
• High Ambient Temperature
• Color Shift
• Incorrect CCT

High Ambient Temperature

Heat is a number one enemy when it comes to LEDs, drastically shortening life span. High ambient temperatures may be present
with HVAC systems, insulation, and installation in areas that are restricted to airflow, and certain weather or climates (typically, hot
and humid or desert areas). Test the ambient temperature in the area of the fixture. If the ambient temperature around the fixture
exceeds 50º C / 122º F, there will likely be damage.

Color Shift
At the end of useful life, LEDs may show a change in correlated color temperature and output. Contact the factory for a
replacement board. LED boards are covered under warranty for a period of 5 years.

Incorrect CCT
While quality control measures are taken at the factory, it is possible that there is a mix up in CCT of LED boards within a single
fixture or multiple fixture order. If you notice variation in color temperature across a single or similar fixtures, verify the LED part
number and detail information on the LED board to determine if the CCT is incorrect. Contact the factory for a replacement board.
LED boards are covered under warranty for a period of 5 years.
