The Hints for upcoming Vipassanā examination.

I would like to say sth about the 37 Bodhipakkhiya dhamma. They will come on the examination. Page
12 to 17. You should prepare these 37 Bodhipakkhiya dhamma. When it arise in the examination, you
can answer, not sure it will appear or not. Regarding these 37 Bodhipakkhiya dhamma, you should
answer only the headings. Only headings. For example, please count 37 bodhipakkhiya dhamma, not
need to count in detail, you give only the headings. Cattāro Satipaṭṭhāna, the four foundation of
mindfulness, it is enough. The four foundation of mindfulness, kāyanupassanā, vedanānupassanā,.. not
need. And also here, cattāri sammappadhāna – the four right mental efforts, enough. Only the headings.
Pāḷi and English. Not need to give what the four right efforts are. No need. Cattāro Iddhipādā, the four
foundation of accomplishment, pañca indriya, the five faculties. No need to count faith, effort,
mindfulness,… No need to count like that.

Every question will have two parts, this is the first part. The second part, you have to write in the aṭṭha
maggaṇga, the eight constitutes of the noble paths, and then pubbābhagga magga. I have already
mentioned about attha magganga and pubbābhagga magga. Karaka maggang. Actually I have already
explained about these karaka magganga. Actually it’s five. Samādhi magganga and paññā maggaṇga. So
you have to explain in the real meditation practice. How to function of these karaka maggaṇga or
pubbābhagga maggaṇga in the real practice meditation? How to function, how to perform in the
practice vipassanā meditation. These five magganga.

Sammāvayama, sammāsati, sammāsamādhi contribute samādhi magganga. sammādiṭṭhi,


sammāsaṇkappa contribute paññā magganga. So in the real Vipassana practice, only these five factors
function (out of eight). So you think the other factors doing but only these.

For example, ānāpāna meditation. To stay your mind on the object, you must have sammāvayama,
effort. Without effort, without viriya, your mind cannot stay in the meditation object. So to stay our
mind in a long time with that object, samma vayama helps and supports. So because of the
sammāvayama, there will be sammāsati, mindfulness can stay in that object. After the sammāsati, there
will be the sammāsamādhi, concentration. This is very important, concentration, without the
concentration, we cannot see the reality of mind and matter. That’s why the Buddha said here, ….a pali
verse… ( we cannot recognize pāli words). When you write, you put such the sentence. So if we have the
sammasamādhi, there will be paññā. Paññā magganga. At that time this paññā is the sammādiṭṭhi,
understanding the mind and matter. and then also, sammasaṇkappā, put the mental faculty to the
object. So only these five factors function in our practice Vipassanā meditation. This would be second
part.

So now, we get only one (question).
