ISM
• Independent Study Mentorship (ISM) Project Based Research is a course designed
for students to mentor an adult professional in a career of their choice.
• Weebly Artifacts: https://mallorymooreismportfolio.weebly.com/artifacts.html
• Requirements:
• Complete an in-depth study in an area of interest
• Document at least 3 hours of mentorship each week
• Complete an online ISM portfolio (Weebly Website)
• Develop a Mid-Term Presentation as well as a final product and presentation
• Complete all daily classwork assignments
Project Topic
• Project Topic: The iLs and Interactive
Metronome Partnership
• About how each works, and how using both can
be even more beneficial as well as how their
benefits overlap
• To learn more about the aspects of the therapy
that are not strictly physical
Artifact 5
Key Points
• How does the iLs work?
• Effects/benefits of using the iLs program
• How does the Interactive Metronome work?
• Effects/benefits of using the Interactive Metronome
• How the iLs and Interactive Metronome Programs Work Together
How does the iLs work?
• Uses research-based technology to provide specifically engineered music
transmitted through air conduction and bone conduction to make changes in
the brain through neuroplasticity
• Classical music is used to highlight different frequencies for each different goal
• Low frequencies: balance, rhythm, coordination, and body awareness
• Mid-range frequencies train pitch deciphering
• Customized for individual goals
Interacted Listening Systems Playbook and User Guide
Effects/benefits of using the iLs program
• Most effective with
learning, attention,
autism, and
developmental disabilities
• Can improve things such
as emotional balance,
sensory processing,
anxiety, academics, and
even confidence integratedlistening.com/.
Products
• Dreampad
• Music through gentle, calming vibrations only you can hear (relaxing)
• Reduces stress, improves sleep, decreases hypersensitivity
• Safe and Sound Protocol integratedlistening.com/.

• 5 day intervention to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social
engagement and resilience

integratedlistening.com/.
Products
• iLs Focus System
• Improves brain function by brain and body integration
through multisensory input
• 60-minute or 30-minute versions - home based
• Music while working (eating not recommended)
• Common to improve processing speed, energy, self- integratedlistening.com/.

confidence, mood, behavior, and reduce anxiety and stress

Products
• VoicePro
• Used as a social training tool
• Helps with articulation, phonemic awareness,
auditory memory, auditory figure ground and
dichotic listening
• Goal: to train the ear and brain to analyze/ process
sound more efficiently and accurately
integratedlistening.com/.
How does the Interactive Metronome work?

• Assessment and tool that measures/improves Neurotiming and increases

brain connectivity
• The session length, metronome speed, and light timing are alterable
• Backgrounds maintain attention and sometimes provide goals
• Button for upper extremity training- different methods, mat for lower
extremity training
Effects/benefits of using the Interactive
Metronome
• Allows for focus elsewhere
• Helps with attention, processing, memory, comprehension, coordination, etc.
• The real time auditory and visual feedback gives opportunity for immediate
corrections to timing and rhythm
• Believed to improve the resolution/efficiency of an individuals internal brain
clock and temporal processing
How the iLs and Interactive Metronome
Programs Work Together
• iLs is often recommended prior to
the IM due to the individual being
overwhelmed by their
environment or unable to do the
movements
• Foundational skills such as balance
and coordination gained from the
iLs can help the individual with IM
which works on higher level skills
Artifact 3
How the iLs and Interactive Metronome
Programs Work Together (continued)
• Beneficial in conjunction for those with auditory processing issues,
coordination, attention, endurance, and focus
• Good responses from those with sensory processing disorders affecting organizational
abilities
• Often report a significant increase in motor planning skills as well as listening and
communication abilities
• “However, our best success over the 10+ years we have been utilizing both
the ILs and IM comes when the programs are used in conjunction with one
another” (Leyden and Hermann).
Current Event
• “Children with better coordination more likely to achieve at school”
• Association between coordination and academic success- study by University of
Leeds
• Hand-to-eye coordination (reading, writing, math scores) and interceptive timing
(math scores)
• Changes: increased focus on motor skills and indoor/ outdoor areas where kids can
focus on the environment around them (school trying it has seen great results)
• Connection to the Interactive Metronome- “designed to measure eye-to-hand
coordination [involving] steering, taking aim and tracking objects on a computer
screen” (University of Leeds)
