will now fetch 8% interest rate for the October-December quarter, up from existing 7.6%. The 5-year Senior
Citizen Savings Scheme will fetch 8.7%, while Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme 8.5%.
 The government has raised Import duties on 19 "non-essential items" including air conditioners, refrigerators,
washing machines and jewellery items in a bid to reduce the Current Account Deficit. The total value of imports
of these items in FY18 was about ₹86,000 crore.
 The government has set up a Panel to review the Competition Act to ensure that the legislation is in line with the
changing business environment. The nine-member panel will be headed by Injeti Srinivas (Corporate Affairs
Secretary).
 The Haryana cabinet approved a scheme under which a Monthly pension will be provided to Acid Attack
survivors. Any woman or girl who suffered an acid attack on or after May 2, 2011 will be eligible for the pension.
 The Haryana government has settled the first claim of ₹9,000 under the public insurance scheme Ayushman
Bharat for a baby girl born in Karnal's Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College. The scheme's first
beneficiary Mousami gave birth to Karishma through a caesarean section on August 17 and the claim amount
was paid to the treating hospital on August 31.
