Alexander Pössinger

Franz Alexander Pössinger (born December 16, 1767 in Vienna , † August 19, 1827 in Vienna) was an Austrian violinist , arranger and composer.

He lived in Vienna and was a violinist and viola player in the Viennese Hofmusikkapelle . He was particularly successful as an arranger of contemporary
works. At a time when it was still not possible to reproduce successful pieces of music and to play them at home at any time, many households were
interested in obtaining arrangements for these works, which could be played in a small circle with existing instruments.

For example, Alexander Pössinger wrote string quartet editions of Ludwig van Beethoven's symphonies and other works by contemporary composers.

His own works belonged mainly to chamber music .
