4 Secrets Why Food Is NOT Medicine When You're
Autoimmune!
Secret #1: Resolve Your Leaky Gut First
The digestive system is the gateway to your body. Everything that moves
through your intestines is still in some sense outside of the body. It hasn’t
gone “in” yet. When you eat a food, what happens to it? How does it get “in”?
What regulates the process of absorption? One of the first digestive “steps” is
interacting with your gut bacteria. Trillions of bacteria live in your gut and
regulate the process of breaking down food and the absorption of nutrients
from what you eat. These bacteria are essential for a healthy digestive sys-
tem. The bacteria in the gut are also your first line of defense, and having
them in place keeps whatever is toxic in your gut from damaging your intesti-
nal walls and causing inflammation. Good or bad bacteria can populate your
gut. The quantity and higher quality gut bacteria have many powerful and es-
sential effects on your body.
Gut bacteria hold the key not just for better health and stronger
immune systems, but also for the following:
• Better absorption of nutrition and micronutrients
• Improved utilization of B vitamins
• Lower inflammation
• Less risk for autoimmune diseases
• Improved mental clarity
• Boosted immunity
• Radiant skin
• Increased energy
• Creating enzymes that destroy harmful gut bacteria
• Leaner body physique
Leaky gut syndrome is a rapidly growing condition that millions of people are
struggling with and don’t even realize it. From the sound of it, you might think
leaky gut syndrome only affects the digestive system, but as you can see, it
can lead to many other health conditions. Leaky gut is one of (it not the pri-
mary) cause of inflammation, as well as hundreds of autoimmune disorders.
According to research, the cause of food allergies, low energy, joint pain, thy-
roid disease, autoimmune conditions and slow metabolism could be a pro-
gression of leaky gut symptoms. Having a leaky gut due to a poor intestinal
environment is quite possibly the one problem that lies at the root of most all
problems in the body. This is why only the "right food" is medicine when you
are autoimmune!
Ways to protect the gut bacteria, your first line of defense:
3. Avoid toxic foods like modern wheat products and GMO foods
4. Avoid any food that has been treated with the herbicide Glyphosate.
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in “Round Up” the #1 herbicide on
the planet today. This toxin has been shown to destroy the bacteria in
your digestive system. Dr. Stephanie Seneff, a senior scientist at MIT,
has linked glyphosate to conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s,
autism, Crohn’s, colitis, diabetes, and most autoimmune diseases, not
to mention other studies linking it to multiple gut diseases by causing a
disruption in the normal gut bacteria.
Just as with anything, supplements or drugs will not remove the cause, so you
will never truly achieve a cure. What actually heals the body is it’s innate abili-
ty to heal itself. All we can do is remove the interference, and let our bodies do
the work. Eating hormones in your food such as conventional non-organic/
non-grass-fed meat and dairy, and personal care products can cause estro-
gen dominance that disrupts the brain and gut. These toxins slowly erode
the gut lining, eventually resulting in a leaky gut. This makes it more difficult
for the intestinal lining to filter necessary nutrients and other substances. As a
result, leaking substances from the gut move out into the bloodstream;
things like toxins, bacteria, proteins and fats that have not been completely
digested are “leaked”. These can prompt the immune system to react, creat-
ing an autoimmune response in the body. Abdominal bloating, fatigue, joint
pain, skin rashes, autoimmunity, cramps and gas may result. "Intermittent
Fasting" which helps give the body time to heal can be a simple but power-
ful practice. For example, after dinner don't eat for 14-18 hours before having
your next meal. This will surely assist in healing the gut and the bacteria that
comes along with it.
Specific toxins can destroy your hormones and cause autoimmunity: You
need to be aware of BPA & mercury, the most important ones.
BPA- Bisphenol A, is an industrial chemical found in hard plastics and in the
linings of food and drink cans that has been used since the 1960’s. BPA can
behave in a similar way to estrogen and other hormones in the human body,
which is severely damaging to the cells and it’s receptors.
Mercury- It is one of the oldest toxins known to man. Endocrine disruptive ef-
fects of mercury have recently become a major public health concern. Mercury
binds to receptors on the cell membrane the same exact way other hormones
are used in our bodies. Just like many toxins this creates hormone resistance
because our bodies natural hormones can’t get into the cell to be used. The
next question could be, “Is mercury really that dangerous?”.
In 1988, scrap dental amalgam material (composed of 50% mercury) was de-
clared hazardous waste by the EPA. OSHA has certain mandates present to
handle amalgam fillings before going into and out of your mouth. The OSHA
guidelines are as such:
Most major countries other than the U.S. have extensive bans and health
warnings regarding the use of amalgam fillings. This includes Austria, Aus-
tralia, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and
Switzerland.
The symptoms associated with mercury poisoning are vast and seemingly
unconnected with one another. Mercury disrupts hormones and can cause
cell death and cellular inflammation. So where is mercury toxicity coming
from? Here are the top 2 sources to avoid:
Oh, fat how I love thee; please ditch the idea that fat makes you fat. I’ve heard it all.
“Dr. Gorski you must be crazy! Eating fat raises your cholesterol Eating fat will make
you fat. There are so many calories in fat. Eating fat causes disease in the body. Fat is
bad, stay away from it!” You must know, not just any fat. Eliminate the BAD FATS and
enjoy the GOOD FATS. Unfortunately, good fats and bad fats have been categorized
together as “fats”, many times without their differences in what they are and how they
affect our bodies. The 1960-70’s low-fat movement (staying with this country
through the 90’s) is proving to be one of the biggest mistakes! In fact, the govern-
ment has changed its 40-year policy on “fat” because of compelling research. We have
all heard the phrase: “fat makes you fat”.
”.
There is a belief that all dietary fat causes heart disease and cardiovascular
system disease. This is true about BAD FATS: they add pounds to our bodies
and are part of the cycle of poor health issues such as clogged arteries and
other diseases. When grain-fed meat, butter, cheese, and damaged Omega 6
oils are eaten, it causes an extreme spike in inflammation and puts us at a
risk for chronic sickness and disease, such as autoimmune, hormone imbal-
ance and leaky gut. The true reality is GOOD FATS are essential to our
healthy bodies. Eating the right fats in your diet promotes a healthy lifestyle
that results in looking and feeling great! GOOD FATS actually help burn fat,
speed-up your metabolism and lose weight, stabilize your blood sugar, and
lower your insulin levels. Fat transports vitamins and minerals throughout
the body, sends signals to your glands to produce good hormones, regulate
healthy brain function, boost immunity and make up every cell, organ, and
tissue of the body. Healthy fats also protect against unhealthy organisms in
your digestive tract, are important for healthy bones, and boost your immune
system. Need I go on?
! !
Good Fats: Look for them in avocados, walnuts, macadamia nuts, marine
algea oil, coconuts, raw unrefined coconut oil, cold-pressed extra virgin olive
oil and olives. These actually support your cardiovascular system and heart.
Grass-fed animals 1-2 x a week (no more than 6 ounces) are actually good for
your heart, digestion and overall health.
Look for them in bison, beef, lamb venison, A2 cheese, and butter. Organic
pastured eggs and organic pastured poultry are other healthy sources.
1. Cold water fish: salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and halibut. The smaller
and younger fish are also the least toxic.
2. Plant sources: flax seeds (the richest plant source); green-leafy vegetables,
seaweed, brussel sprouts; pumpkin, hemp seeds and walnuts
Omega-3 oil has many benefits related to its ability to act as an anti-inflamma-
tory. For treatment and prevention of disease, it can be effective. Also, it can
help speed up the burning of fats in your body and result in weight loss.
Omega-3 benefits the immune system and heart as well as arthritis. It can in-
crease fat metabolism as it reduces the levels of insulin in the body. Insulin
promotes the use of fat for storage, not fuel.
Omega -6 (bad fats) can be found in canola oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil,
vegetable oil, margarine, cottonseed oil, and soy oil. These oils are found in all
processed foods at the grocery store and all foods at most restaurants, unless
it’s stated otherwise.
Omega fats are deemed essential because the body cannot make most
of them; therefore, you need to get them from your diet in order to sur-
vive. It is absolutely crucial to balance your Omega-6 to Omega-3 intake and
increase healthy fats in order for your immune response to work properly. To-
day some research shows the average American can consume 20-40 times
more Omega 6 than Omega 3. Work on getting your body between a 1:1 – 1:4
ratio of Omega 3’s to Omega 6’s for optimal health and cellular function.
Sugar Burning/Fat
4. Over 150 grams Sugar
Storing
*In order to burn fat, lose weight, and build lean muscle your op-
timal sweet spot is going to be between 40-85 grams of carbs.
Also expect to experience hormone optimization, increased
mental clarity and lower inflammation.
