REDUNDANT CONTROL SYSTEM (RCS)

Applications
• Emergency Shutdown Systems
• Burner Management Systems
• Isolation and Venting Systems
• High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS)
• Flaring Systems

The Redundant Control System (RCS) is the only pilot valve system that has no single point of failure that could result in
an unwanted closure of the process valve.
RCS is fit for use in SIL 3 applications and greatly reduces spurious trip rates. RCS achieves a high level of process
safety and reliability by using a redundant, fault tolerant architecture with high diagnostic coverage and automated
testing. A keyed bypass allows easy on-line maintenance of the RCS without process interruption.

The RCS is available in a variety of constructions that provide diagnostics through automated, online testing.

2oo2 Diagnostics
Both solenoids are online during normal operation. Both solenoid valves
must be de-energized for shutdown.
Pressure switches are used to individually alarm if either solenoid valve
goes to the vent state when not commanded, thereby reducing the
potential for spurious trips.

The pressure switches are also used for signaling during automatic,
on-line testing.

1oo1 Hot Standby Only one solenoid valve is on-line during normal operation. Any
spurious trip of the on-line solenoid valve is detected by the logic solver,
due to a signal being sent from an associated pressure switch.
The response to the trip is to energize the second solenoid valve
thereby maintaining air supply to the process valve.
For functional testing, both solenoid valves are energized. Each
solenoid valve is de-energized individually with pressure switch
confirmation of successful venting. No bypass is required for functional
testing.

• High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS)
• Flaring Systems

The ASCO RVS offers Redundant Solution for Emergency Shut Down valves and various redundant configurations
(1oo2, 2oo2 & 2oo3) to meet both Availability and Reliability.

The ASCO RVS is a 2oo3 Redundant Solenoid Valve Piloting System that combines the advantages of both 1oo2 &
2oo2 systems to acheive a high level of process Safety and Reliability.

BYPASS TEST PANEL

Applications
• Critical actuator control for Oil & Gas, Refinery and
Petrochemical processes with online diagnostic testing to
increase reliability

The Bypass Test Panel allows faulty solenoid valves to be replaced without interruption to the ongoing process
line. Manual testing of solenoid valves’ functionality is also possible during the operation of the
process valve.
For critical applications, feedback can be provided to the control room when the solenoid valves
are in bypass mode using the Feedback Unit, which can be added in as an option. The Feedback
Unit is ATEX certified II2 GD EEx d IIC T6, IP65.

Bypass Modes

Normal Mode

During regular operation, the bypass valve is in the “Normal” position,

which the solenoid valve pilots the bypass valve.

Test Mode

The bypass valve is put in the “Bypass” position to test the solenoid valve.
The solenoid valve can then be safely tested to confirm the functionality
of the solenoid valve. Its correct operation is confirmed by the pressure
gauge.

Maintenance Mode

With the Bypass unit, the mal-function solenoid valve could be replaced
without affecting the main valve’s operation.

4
ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM (ACS)

Applications
• For process valve automation

The Actuator Control System (ACS) reduces the risk of malfunction and leakage, and provides a flexible full 316L
stainless steel modular system with Filter Regulator, solenoids and accessories such as check valves, speed controllers
and manual valves. The units are supplied completely assembled and tested using standard ATEX and Functional
Safety certified products.

ASCO ACS is lighter, stronger and more compact comparatively to conventional panel mounting units. Integrated
mounting facility eliminates incorrect installation with complex arrangements of panels, pipes, brackets, thus reducing
leak points while increasing reliability and integrity of the control system.

ASCO STAINLESS STEEL PRODUCTS

ASCO solenoid valves are an integral part of the final control elements for any safety instrumented system or critical
application. We have an array of over 50,000 solenoid valves ranging from solenoid pilot valves, angle body piston valves,
NAMUR valves in 2/2, 3/2, 4/2 and 5/2 functions.

ASCO Stainless Steel Products are available in 2/2, 3/2, 4/2 and 5/2 functions with port sizes up to ½” for both direct acting
and pilot operated types.

For internal/external piloting Stainless Steel 2-way Valves, ASCO has a range up to 2½”.

Direct acting valves are pertinent on applications such as instrument panels, media sampling machines, process valve
control.

Pilot operated valves are mostly recommended for use in medium size process actuator valves piloting in a harsh or
corrosive environment.

ASCO Stainless Steel Valves are made to withstand the harsh environments and comply with ATEX/IECEx (EEx d, EEx
em, EEx m, EEx n, NEMA (Class 1 and 2, Division 1 and 2), TÜV, NEPSI, KGS, CE, UL and CSA.

ASCO SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

ASCO Intrinsically Safe Valves

ASCO Intrinsically Safe (IS) and Low Power valves are for use
in instrument control equipment to prevent ignition in explosive
atmospheres to ensure an inherent safe system is in place.

Low Power valves minimizes temperature rise with lower power

drawn, this allows less wiring when operating these DC valves.

ASCO Manual Reset Valves

Manual reset valves use manual reset assemblies together with
the solenoid valves in order to prevent accidental or unplanned
valve startup in their designed failure modes.

No voltage release valves can be latched by moving the lever

tip to the latched position when the solenoid is energized. The
valve trips when the solenoid is de-energised. When tripped,
the valve can be manually cycled open / closed but the solenoid
has to be energized to re-latch.

Electrically tripped valves can be latched when the lever is

move to the latched position and the solenoid is de-energized.
The valve trips when the solenoid is energized by a continuous
or momentary (0.3 seconds minimum) electrical signal.

ASCO Next Generation Valves

ASCO RedHat Next Generation Valves use electronics
technology to manage power, providing a new standard of
operation. The solenoid incorporates a power management
circuit providing low power consumption, enhanced pressure
and flow ratings and an electrical surge suppression to both the
solenoid and electrical controls.

This new technology accepts both AC and DC voltages without

sacrificing flow or pressure specification. This reduces wiring
costs and provides safer working environments for applications
operating on DC voltages.

ASCO RedHat Next Generation addresses many other

operating characteristics that will further improve the life of the
solenoid valves. This includes a much lower temperature rise
and an increase in valve ambient rating to 60°C.
