Abstract

The text I am analyzing is the Powerade Commercial about Derrick Rose. Power Ade

started the campaign of “Just a Kid”.This campaign is aimed at showing the potential in every-

one but mainly athletes. The ad is aiming to show that no matter where you start in life or the

obstacles that come your way, you can advance through hard work and determination. This ad in

particular is about the NBA All Star Derrick Rose. Rose suffered a significant amount of injuries

and faced different obstacles in his life. This shows the audience about his life and that you can

make it through your struggles. People argue that obstacles and adversity don’t do much to us,

but the reality is that they helps us grow as a person. By way of the Greek Triangle, Narrative

Fallacy and Semiotics we see that the commercial motivates young athletes and people that their

journey to success is all through the obstacles they face, therefore coming to the realization of

being able to persevere everyone can get to where they want to be.

In the project the materials I used were images to give an illustration of the topics and

ideas I talked about. Some of the images included athlete Derrick Rose, pictures to help show the

appeals, images from the ad itself. All of these pieces served as a way to show the audience a

better picture and to understand what I am talking about.
