The proposed alterations to the building are:

• 1 Improve usable space

1B Ground floor south extension (lobby and waiting area)

Internal layout improvements (all floors)

Modern medical facilities require a better layout

arrangement. Reconciled use of space, creates a more
desirable relationship between patients and staff. To
assist with this requirement, internal spaces will be
enhanced and replanned through the building.

Ground floor south extension

Increasing the area of the building will guarantee a better Existing - Site Plan
usability for the maternity unit facility. To create a more
welcoming entrance and reception an extension of 72m2
(GIA) to the south is proposed.

The existing waiting area is considered to be too small for

the current number of patients. A larger waiting area will
be more confortable to building users and staff.

The extension, at ground floor, will be brighter and light

will reach the waiting area through glazed screens on the
facade and new glazed access doors.

The extension will have a flat roof to match the main
building style. The roof will be slightly higher than the first
floor level. 1B

The single storey southern volume will be extended into
the parking courtyard. The existing site for the extension
is currently soft and hard landscape. Two existing trees
will be removed.

2 Replacement windows (shown in red)

Replacement windows (all floors)

Most of the existing windows are currently rotten and

of poor appearance. The replacement of windows and
external glazed screens will improve the quality of the
building.
Proposed - North Elevation
The replacement windows and screens will retain the
overall external appearance of the existing windows
and shall match surrounding properties, but will be of
significantly improved build quality, energy efficiency and
detailed appearance.

Alternative windows opening and arrangements will be

incorporated to suit the new and improved internal layout.

The alternative entrance door will be replaced with a new 1B

automated glazed door to the building extension.
Proposed - South Elevation

Appearance

Windows and glazed screens will match in style the

existing building. However, the replacement widows will
be PVC-u white frame.

The existing buildings style shall be retained with the new

volume of extention, due to the use of following materials

Improvements to accessibility

The main entrance to the maternity unit is located at

ground floor level on the north elevation. This has recently
been renovated, therefore no alterations will be required.

The alternative entrance to the maternity unit is located

at ground floor level on the south elevation. This will be 3B

relocated to suit the new internal layout.

The antenatal entrance to the maternity unit is located

at groundfoor level on the south elevation. This shall be
infilled.

Public access to the site will not be altered.

There will be no changes to the number or location of the Existing - Secondary entrace plan
parking spaces.

The existing alternative entrance to the maternity unit will

be relocated to the new building extension. This will be
infilled in to suit the new internal layout.

The existing antenatal entrance to the maternity unit will

Proposed relocated alternative entrance

A new alternative entrance with level access to the facility

will be provided by combining the existing alternative
entrance and the existing antenatal entrance. This will be

achieved via two new sets of automated glazed doors to
the new lobby. These will be incorporated to suit the new
internal layout.
