Heat Transfer 1
The report has to be submit to the tutor staff before tutor class on 30 November 2018
Solve all problems. Each member of group has to submit their reports respectively. The lowest grade
of the reports will be a grade of all member of the same group. Each report is covered with a page
cover consisting of homework number and number of the group.
1. Determine F12 and F21 for the following configurations using appropriate method for sketches (a)
and (b).
(a) (b)
2. Use method “crossed‐strings” to evaluate the view factors F12 for sketches (a) and (b). Compare your
results with those from using the appropriate graphs, analytical expressions, and view factor
relations.
(b)
(a)
3. A drying oven consists of a long semicircular duct of diameter D = 1 m. Materials to be dried cover
the base of the oven while the wall is maintained at 1275 K.
What is the drying rate per unit length of the oven (kg/s m) if a
watercoated layer of material is maintained at 330 K during the
drying process? Blackbody behavior may be assumed for the
water surface and the oven wall.
4. Consider the arrangement of the two black surfaces
shown, where A1 is smaller than A2. Determine the
value of F12 and calculate the net radiation heat
transfer from A1 to A2 if T1 = 1200 K, and T2 = 700 K.
5. Consider the arrangement of the three black surfaces shown, where A1 is small compared to A2 or
A3. Determine the value of F13. Calculate the net radiation heat
transfer from A1 to A3 if A1= 0.05 m2, T1 = 1000 K, and T3 = 500 K.
Good Luck
