CASE 1: FILING OF RTI APPLICATION
As a part of the legal fraternity, it is our duty to serve the society with legal knowledge and
make them aware of their legal rights being a citizen of Democratic Republic like India. Legal
Aid is more than helping the unfortunate people. It is rather the right of the unfortunate people.
I got the chance to do my bit for the society when our Professor, Ms. Vandana provided us with
an opportunity to give our service to the needy.
In this Case, I got the chance of addressing X’s problems who is our tenant.
He had worked as a Lab Assistant with Public Sr. Sec. School, Nangloi, New Delhi which is
duly recognized and affiliated to CBSE during the period of July 2007 to June 2012. However,
the experience certificate provided to him by the school authorities cites 28.06.2010 to
30.06.2012 as his working period with the school.
He wanted to enquire whether his name is mentioned in the CBSE records as a lab assistant
with the school from July 2007 to June 2012 or from 28.06.2010 to 30.06.2012 as mentioned
in the experience certificate given by the school. He also wanted to get the records of above
stated if available with CBSE.
The application was filed on 20. September 2018 on the website and the reply came on 12.
October. 2018.
Under the Right to Information Act 2005, every Indian citizen has full right to demand any
information from the government if he/she desires to do so.
For example: a citizen can demand information regarding delay in his passports from the
Government.
The Government, as per the RTI 2005, is liable to provide the information demanded to the
citizen. If the government authority from which information is demanded fails to do so, the
government authority will be penalized.
There are certain matters which are state oriented such as construction of a road, problems with
irrigation or street light issues. In such case, an RTI application will be filed with the state
authorities.
However, if your matter relates to the departments which are related to the Centre, then the
RTI must be filed with the central government. In case you fail to submit your RTI Application
to the Public Information Officer, you can approach the Central Information Commission. Read
further to know how to file an RTI with the Central Government Departments.
The first step to file an RTI with a department of the central government would be to
identify from which department the information has to be obtained. For instance,
anything related to income tax should go to Income Tax department or defense related
query should go to Ministry of Defense.
The next step would be writing your RTI application in the prescribed format. Also, this
format isn’t mandatory and you can submit your application on a plain paper as well.
The language of the application can be Hindi or English. Similarly, the government can
also respond in either language.
As you might know, there is some amount charged for each RTI you file. Thus, to file
an application to a central government department, attach application fee of Rs. 10/- in
the form of Indian Postal Order.
4. Send Application
Once all the above mentioned steps are completed, send your RTI application via speed
post/registered post and wait for the government’s response. If you don’t get a reply
within 30 days of sending the application, you can approach the central information
commission.

address the grievances of the people who have not been able to submit an RTI Application due

CASE 3: VOTER ID CARD
I visited an underdeveloped area “Matiala Village” nearby my home. It is an Industrial area
and mostly migrants from small towns and villages outside Delhi live here with their families.
I went knocking door to door to ask if they needed any help in getting any of their documents
made. A few of them were supportive and were ready to give the relevant documents to be
submitted while a few others looked at it with suspicion.
Mr. Jitin Mahech resident of Matiala Village showed desire in getting his Voter ID Card made.
He gave me photocopies of his Class X Marksheet, the front page of his Bank PassBook for
Address Proof and a Passport size photograph.
After collecting these documents from him, I scanned them from my end and, applied for his
Voter ID card online.
