Commitment to the Profession
Comments:
Salama has been committed to her work in our FS2 classroom. She has been wonderful with the
children, gained their respect and provided them with fun learning experiences. Aside from her own
lessons, she has been committed to other aspects of school, such as helping the children at snack,
taking them to the bathroom and assisting during their swimming lessons. All of which have been a
great help to the classroom assistants, children and myself. She has also had the confidence to
approach me and make suggestions regarding the classroom environment, always with the children’s
best interests at heart.
Planning for Learning
Comments:
Salama’s planning was shared prior to the lesson. She made adjustments after she had been given
advice and acted on feedback.
Her resources were planned and prepped ahead of the lesson.
Different abilities were taken into consideration when planning the focused activities.
Managing Learning
Comments:
All children in the class had the opportunity to learn through Salama’s lessons. She set the
expectations of the behavior for the lesson at the beginning and there were no behavior issues during
Salama’s input.
The children were well directed to the different areas of the classroom and there was a high level of
student engagement.
Salama discussed with the classroom assisstants about their role prior to the lesson, which meant a
smooth transition from the carpet to the teacher focused activities.
Implementing Learning
Comments:
Lessons were well planned and resourced.
She used real objects to introduce the concept of ‘capacity’ which grabbed the children’s attention.
She selected a learning video that was age appropriate and linked to the outcome.
All children were engaged in a focused activity at some point during her observation – she even
thought about other areas of the classroom, such as the water tray, fine motor centre and free flow
maths centre, all of which she planned and resourced.
I would suggest not using worksheets during the first few lessons and make it completely hands on
and practical.
Assessment
Comments:
Salama took into consideration the abilities of the children when planning her focused activities by
her own teacher judgement and her observations of the children. For this lesson I would have liked to
have seen her with a checklist of the class where she could have noted the children’s capabilities for
that outcome.
Reflection on Practice
Comments:
Salama has always put a lot of effort into planning and resourcing her lessons and I cannot fault her
efforts.
The children have loved having her in our class and the parents were also sad to see her go.
Overall, I would advise Salama to work on her time keeping skills and make more effort to be on time
for lessons.
