Mechanical (MEP) System Design Criteria Overview
Saudi British Bank Premier Office (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)

1. Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design criteria will be as per
ASHRAE fundamental standard for nonresidential cooling and heating load calculation
(see the ASHRAE Fundamentals attachements in index-10 & 11)

Basic consideration for calculation of cooling and heating loads

• Building orientation, elevation from sea level and outdoor ambient temperature
• Heat gains for number of people, lighting, appliances and office equipments
• Design cooling room temperature during summer at 72 degree farenheit (22 degree celcius)
• Design heating room temperature during winter at 70 degree farenheit (21 degree celcius)
• Wall, roof and window cladding heat gains with recommended U-factor calculation
• Recommended indoor (fresh) air ventilation for breathing zone
• Recommended indoor exhaust rates for toilets, kitchens and others
• Refer to data input parameters for HVAC load calculation
• HVAC load calculation shall perform by carrier program HAP version 4.40

Type of HVAC Equipment

• Split DX Type Air Conditioning System (by LG Variable Refrigerant Flow)
• Split DX Type Air Conditioning System ceiling concealed ducted type
• Outdoor (Fresh) air by axial fan located at the roof top
• Supply Air Fans (Staircase Pressurization System) located at the roof top
• Exhaust Air Fans (Toilets, Kitchens and others))
• In-line centrifugal fan and induction fans for basement parking area

2. Enclosed Vehicular Facilities design criteria will be as per ASHRAE Application

standard for basement parking ventilation load calculation
(see the ASHRAE attachements in index-11)
• Recommended basement car parking for allowable carbon monoxide level
• Recommended basement car parking for average entrance and exit times for vehicles
• Recommended basement exhaust air rates for car parking at 6 ACH criteria
• Recommended outdoor (fresh) air ventilation for basement parking
• In-line centrifugal fan and induction fans shall utilised for basement parking area

3. Water Supply System will be based on 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code standard for
toilet fixture units load capacities of the following design criteria
(see the Uniform Plumbing Code attachements in index-13)
• Calculation of water demand based on total fixture unit and booster pumps capacity
• Basement water tank will transfer the water to roof water tank by transfer water pump
• Booster water pump shall apply for the all toilets from roof water tank
• Gravity system of water supply for basement only and by-pass gravity for toilets
• Pressure reducing valve station shall install if necessary
• Individual electric water heater shall be used in each toilets and installed above false ceiling

4. Sewerage and Drainage System will be based on 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code
standard for drainage fixture units load capacities of the following design criteria
(see the Uniform Plumbing Code attachements in index-13)
• Single pipe system with vent pipe to be applied in this project
• Calculation of drainage fixture unit for sizing of pipings
• Calculation of basement drainage for submersible pumps capacity
• Calculation of sump pit capacity
• Calculation of storm drainage at the roof top
• Pipe invert level at minimum of 1% slope
• External manhole connection to municipality drainage pipe lines

5. Irrigation System will be based on 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code standard for
irrigation water supply and load capacities of the following design criteria
(see the Uniform Plumbing Code attachements in index-13)
• Landscaping layout to establish the area for irrigation water supply
• Calculation of irrigation pumps and solenoid station numbers

6. Fire Protection System will be based on National Fire Protection Association standard
for the following design criteria
(see the NFPA Code attachements in index-14)
• Light hazard occupancy for offices and residential buildings
• Calculation of fire fighting pumps and reserved water tank capacity for fire fighting
• Landing valves for fire fighter's access located in stairwells

for the following design criteria
(see the NFPA Code attachements in index-14)
• Offices building lighting loads shall be 45 watts per square meter
• Residential building lighting loads shall be 45 watts per square meter
• Equipment loads shall be 25 watts per square meter
• Mechanical air conditioning loads shall be 200 watts per square meter
• Upgrading electrical loads shall provide a spare in the panel boards
