The Impact Of Social Media In Students Achievement

Unit 1. Introduction

In 1822 Charles Babbage invented the Computer and it made human life
easier. Before the invention of computer there were invented Postal services
and telegraphs in 1792 but that was not enough but it delivered massage faster
than horse rider from one person to another person. In 1890, Alexander
Graham Bell founded telephone and that made easier to communicate than
past. By using the super computer the earliest form of internet such as,
CompuServe, were developed in 1960s and used to send E-mail for
communicate virtual newsletter. The Social media are interactive computer-
mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information,
ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual
communities and networks. The first recognized social media was Six danger
which was created in 1997. After that in 2004, the popular social media
Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg, where we can upload the
thoughts, ideas, photos. In 2005, the YouTube is formed and similarly in 2006,
Jack Dorsey created the twitter.

The 21st century is known as the “Era of Computer” where dramatically


changed in the technology that made human life easy and globalization. Every
activities of human life became a digital. The American writer and professor
of biochemistry at Boston University Isaac Asimov told that "I do not fear
computers. I fear lack of them." this quotation makes clear about that how
important became the computer in this era. Computer is used in every field of
human activities. As a result computer is using also in school and universities
too. The education system of Nepal was started with home-schooling and
Gurukul and nowadays there are so many public and private schools are
opened for the public. In past there was traditional teaching methods and
technique but nowadays replaced with the digital education. Beside the Digital
education nowadays a large numbers of students of Nepal has facebook
accounts and they expend quarter time of whole day on social media. The
social does not only lose the time of the students but also money. In other hand,
it has positive impact too.

The social media plays the vital role in the students achievement. We can
search every knowledgeable matter on Google. Social media are store house of
knowledge they can answer more than teacher if we want. Social networking
has increased the rate and quality of collaboration for students. They are
better able to communicate meeting times or share information quickly, which
can increase productivity and help them learn how to work well in groups. It
has both positive and negative impacts to the students. It depends on the users
of social media. It leads to the destination but we should compose the route
map where we reach. Many students of university levels students are self
study by using social media and they scores the distinction but some students
comes daily in class and he/she also used the social media at last they scores
less even regularly come in class, Here he/she misused the social media.

We the 4th years English specialist students of Pashupati Multiple Campus,


Kathmandu done the research on above topic. We try to find the real impact
of social media on the 4th year’s student’s achievement to fulfill partial
practical of “Research Methodology in English Language Education” subject
of B.Ed 4th year. In this this research there are 3 units.

In this research Unit 1 deals with the introduction of research title. It includes
purpose of research, research problems, theoretical framework, the veriable
under the study and the definition of the term used in the study.

Unit 2 is related with the Methodology it includes the research design,


sampling procedure, data collection, tools used in data collection. It collects
the proofs for to finding reality on the basis of data collection we give shape to
the research. No methodology no research so, this unit is very important in
any research.

Unit 3 discusses about the Data Analysis and Interpretation, without


statistical data analysis research is meaningless so, It is the very important. It
is done on the basis of data collection used by different methods and tools
recommend the remedies of the research problems.

At last it unit 4 talks about the references materials which are sources
research during collations of data. It includes the bibliography and appendix.
Where bibliography deals with sources of secondary data collections and
appendix are the complex tables, statistical, test, supporting documents, copies
of forms and questionnaires, detailed descriptions of the field workers, and
other evidence important for letter support.
