Peer Observation Number:
Date/Time: Name of Student Teacher to be observed:

Setting: Classroom Grade: Grade 5

Topic for the lesson Name of Observer/Critical Friend:

Earth rotation Hend Alyammahi

Learning Outcomes:
Discover earth rotations and it’ causes. How does night and day accrue?

Identify some key terms: Earth, Axis, Rotation,

Spin.

PEER OBSERVATION: AREA OF FOCUS: How to make a professional plan

Observed Strengths: Suggestions for further development:

- Good recap on the rules.

- Good use of helpers - It would help more of you explained and
- Clear instructions showed the second diagram to the students
I think you have clear and well-done lesson plan. You (question, what I think will happen, what I
included all the component and the resources that you used) before giving it to the students (small
will you use during a lesson. narrow for the direction will be grate).
I liked when you recap on the rules of class and you
- Try to clear out everything form the table
assigned some helpers to distribute the papers. I liked before discussing the questions (worksheet). It
when you used the KWL chart to engage the students would be wonderful if you write their
and know their prior knowledge. They were responses on the board or have a large poster
motivated by hearing others questions. for each group, so you can see if they connect
the answers with the questions.
Good using of time, you kept remind them of the time
they have left - It would be useful if you used the Earth
Models to explain the (axis) more cognitive
and concrete.
Great questioning (interested and high blooms)

I liked the picture of the earth and the balls (rotation) - Why don’t you extend the conversations by
asking them to justify their answers (not just
Meaning of rotation (use JIF Picture) to simplify the saying ok we will see next).
meaning of rotation.

Good differentiating. (time was giving 3 minutes).

I liked the summary at the end (completing the L
Chart: What did you learn).

Reflection (to be completed after discussion of Peer Review with colleague): e.g. how did you feel about conducting a formal
observation? How did your colleague feel about being observed? How did you feel about discussing your observations with your
colleague after the lesson? How did your colleague react to your assessment? Did she agree with your evaluation? Which of the
suggestions you made will your colleague apply in her next lesson? Do you and your colleague feel that this was a valuable
experience? Why/Why not?

Today I did the first peer observation for my friend Maryam. She taught grade five the cause of the earth
rotation. After the observation I had to discuss the lesson with her, to outline the area of strength and
weakness. At the beginning I was very nerves and I was thinking of how she would feel about my comment.
However, I started by the things that I am more comfortable to talk about which are her strength. She felt very
happy about those comment and thanked me for appraising her work. Then, we moved to the things that I
think she had to work on, before that she told me that it is ok, that make me less stressful. Eventually, she
agreed with my evaluation, and the thing that she is going to work on next time is to extend the conversation
with the students by asking for justification. Finally, I liked when she told me that it was nice to have me for
observation and that I gave her useful advise for her teaching improvement.
