These failures occur due to a combination of the following: (a) poor weld detail design, (b) use of austenitic

material
for the flow nozzle when Gr 91 material could have been used, (c) a metallurgically weak zone on the Gr91 side of
the weld which can be enhanced by selecting optimal weld consumables, and most importantly, (d) excessive weld
residual stress due to welding together the P91 with a PWHTed butter layer to the 316SS material with no final
PWHT.

If use of a Gr91 flow nozzle isn't possible then consider the benefit of a lower stress weld detail design, use of EPRI
P87 weld consumable, and a low temperature PWHT after completion of the final weld.
