DIE CASTING
• Die casting is a manufacturing process that can
produce geometrically complex metal parts
through the use of reusable molds called die
• The die casting process involves the use of a
furnace metal die casting machine and die.
• The metal, typically a non ferrous alloy such as
Aluminum or zinc is melted in the furnace and
then injected into the die in the die casting
machine.
GRAVITY DIE CASTING
• In this Process Molten metal is poured into
the Die cavities through a runner and gate by
its own weight with help of ladles. Once the
molten metal enters the riser it is understood
that the part is filled. Then the two Die halves
are opened for ejecting the part after
solidification. The following diagram illustrates
the casting process.

There are two main type of die casting machine
chromium
molybdenum
nickel alloys
tungsten
vanadium
The selection of a material for die casting is based upon several
factors
MATERIALS PROPERTIES
• Low density.
• Good corrosion resistance.
• High thermal and electrical conductivity.
Aluminum • High dimensional stability.
alloys • Relatively easy to cast.
• Requires use of a cold chamber machine.

PRODUCTION COST
The production cost is primarily calculated from the
hourly rate and the cycle time.
