* Definite Integral
- Definition of definite integral
- Area between the curves
- Volume of solids of revolution
1. Let R be the region enclosed by the curve x  y 2 , the lines x  y  3, y  1 and
y  1 . Find its area and also draw the picture of region R.
2. Find the area of the region between the curves y  x 3 and y | x |
from x  1 to x  1.
3. Let R be the region enclosed by the curves x  y 2 and x  y  2 . Find its area
and also draw the region R.

4. Using Disk method to find the volume of the solid generate by revolving the
region R bounded by the lines y = x, y = 3 – x and x = 4 about the y-axis.

5. Using Cylindrical shell method to find the volume of the solid generate by
revolving the region R bounded by the circle ( x  b) 2  y 2  a 2 where a , b  0
about the y-axis.

6. Without calculation, Use the Disk (Washer) and Cylindrical Shell method to
write down the definite integral representing the volume of the solid obtained
y
by revolving the region bounded by the curves x  , x  y and y  2 about
2
the x-axis.

7. Without calculation, use the Disk (Washer) and Cylindrical Shell method to
write down the definite integral representing the volume of the solid obtained
1
by rotating the region bounded by the curves y  , x  y and x  2 about
x
the y-axis .
