Lesson Plan

Name of Student Teacher: Maryam Alblooshi School : RAK Academy PYP

Planning an Inquiry Based Lesson/Activity/Project Name:

Consider your PDP goals when lesson planning. Some points to keep in mind might be:

Professional Development Plan

(What do YOU need to work on in order to grow professionally?) According to my way of thinking the
teacher need to have a special value which is commitment because with that value she will able to give
her work time and attention. Also, confidence is very essential because that will help the teacher to
achieve the learning objectives.
1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal): How
to make a professional plan.
2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used): I researched in many
different websites to gain the concept of the lesson. I ask my MCT and my colleagues about the
activities if they will match students understanding or not.
3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence): That will be measured when
students are doing the activities and that last part of the lesson plan will tell us if students achieved
the learning objective or not.
Grade Level: 5 Subject: Science Learning Outcome (ADEC code and words): Not
included.

Title of Lesson: A brief description of my Lesson in my own words:

 Moon phases.  Students are trying to identify the moon phases in
order and how each phase can occur,

 Identify the 8 phases of the moon.

Essential Question: Guided Questions:

Which one is bigger Earth or Moon or Sun?  What are the moon phases?

Do other planets see our moon or not?

Does the moon have light?

Learning Outcomes (including strand and substrand)

 Identify the 8 phases of the moon.
 Explain how the movements of the Earth and moon create different moon phases observed by humans on Earth.

The moon

Earth’s moon

The planet Earth is part of solar system made of planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. Earth is the third planet from the sun and has water and
oxygen. Have you ever wondered how many moons the Earth have?

The Earth has one moon. The moon is a large object that revolves around Earth. The moon has no air, no water, and no life. The surface of the
moon is covered with craters and plains. A moon is a satellite. Satellites are objects in outer space that orbit, or rotate around the planet. Moons
are not planets because they do not orbit the sun planets do. The planet we live on, Earth, has one moon. Other planets have moons too. For
example, Jupiter has 6 moons. Imagine looking up into eight sky and seeing that many different moons!

The phases of Earth’s moon

While it may look like it does, the moon does not actually bright, of let off any light. The moon’s light is actually reflected from the sun. It takes
approximately twenty-nine and a half days for the moon to orbit, or move in a path, around Earth. During the twenty-nine and a half days, the
moon seems to change shapes. The different shapes are called phases. The moon itself isn’t really changing shapes. Instead different amounts of
light are reflecting off the moon. The phases of the moon follow the same pattern during each orbit.

The new moon phase is when the moon is between the Earth and the sun. People cannot see any of the moon lit up during the new moon
phase. As the moon orbit around the Earth, people are able to see more and more of the moon. The moon moves half way around the Earth. At
this time, the moon is known as a full moon. A full moon is when the full side of the moon can be seen from Earth. The moon continues to move
through its orbit. However, now less and less of the moon can be seen until the moon reaches the beginning of the orbit again. The moon is now
back to its new moon phase, where it cannot be seen as lit up from earth. The moon continues to move through the same cycle of its phases
over and over again.
