Classroom Requirements
This course requires a classroom with one computer for the instructor and one
computer for each student. Before class begins, install and configure all of the
computers by using the information and instructions in this setup guide. All
hardware that is used must be listed on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
for Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional. This course requires Microsoft
Certified Technical Education Center (Microsoft CTEC) hardware level 3 for
2002 for the instructor computer and Microsoft CTEC hardware level 3 for
2002 for the student computers. The current hardware levels are in the
Appendix for this setup guide.
When you have completed the classroom setup, the Instructor and student
computers should all be connected to the classroom network.
Software
The following table shows all of the software that is needed to set up the
classroom for this course, including the version that was tested with the course
and where the software can be found.

Classroom Configuration
The computer names and Internet Protocol (IP) addresses listed are provided as
suggestions. You can simultaneously install all of the computers.
Use static IP addresses only if Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) is unavailable. If you use static IP addresses, make sure each is
unique within your intranet.
In the following table, x is the classroom number, which may be any whole
number greater than 0 and less than 255.

If necessary, configure your computer so that it starts from the hard disk and
then from the CD-ROM drive.
.1 Boot the computer by using a Microsoft MS-DOS® disk that loads either
CD or network drivers.
.2 Insert the disc containing Windows XP Professional into the CD-ROM drive
or map a network share to the folder containing its setup executable file.
.3 Switch to the \i386 folder on the CD-ROM or network share.
.4 Type winnt and then press ENTER.
Setup will ask for the path where the Windows XP Professional files are
located. Press ENTER to accept the default path that is displayed, or type
the correct path for your computer and then press ENTER.
Windows XP Professional files will be copied to the hard disk.
If possible, set the refresh frequency on the monitor to a value greater than 60
Hertz (Hz). Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties. Click Settings,
and then click Advanced. Click Monitor, and then change the screen refresh
rate to any value greater than 60 Hz from the list control on the Monitor tab. If
the projector to be used does not support a resolution of 1024 by 768, then the
resolution can be set to 800 by 600.
.2 Run setup.bat. If you are not using the CD, run setup.bat from the
C:\sql2ksp2\ folder.
.3 In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.
.4 In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click Yes.
.5 In the Instance Name dialog box, click Next.
.6 In the Connect to Server dialog box, click Next.
.7 In the Start Copying Files dialog box, click Next.
.8 In the Setup dialog box, click OK.
.9 In the Setup Complete dialog box, click Finish.
Whenever you insert a Visual Studio .NET compact disc, except for compact
disc 1, Windows XP Professional displays a pop-up dialog box that provides
you with choices of actions that Windows can perform, such as "Take no
action" or "Always do the selected." You should always click Cancel when
this dialog box is displayed.
.2 In the Visual Studio .NET Setup dialog box, click Windows Component
Update.
.3 When prompted, enter the CD-ROM drive letter. Remove compact disc 1
and insert the Windows Component Update disc into the CD-ROM drive.
Click OK.
.4 When prompted, select I accept the agreement, and then click Continue.
.5 In the Visual Studio .NET Windows Component Update Setup dialog
box, click Install Now.
.6 After Windows Component Update has been installed, click Done.
.7 In the Visual Studio .NET Setup dialog box, click Visual Studio .NET.
.8 When prompted, enter the CD-ROM drive letter. Remove the Windows
Component Update compact disc, insert the Visual Studio .NET compact
disc 1, and then click OK.
.9 When prompted, select I accept the agreement, enter any Product Keys,
and then click Continue.

.6 Clear the Hide protected operating system files check box. When
prompted, click Yes.
.7 Click the Apply to All Folders button. When prompted, click Yes.
.8 To close the Folder Options dialog box, click OK.

.1 Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Microsoft PowerPoint.
.2 On the Welcome to the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard page of the
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage Activation Wizard,
click Next.
.3 On the Welcome to the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard, Microsoft
Office Privacy Policy page, click Next.
.4 On the Customer Information page, in the Country/Region list, select
your location and then click Next.
.5 On the Special Offers page, click Submit.
.6 On the Activation Complete page, click Finish.
.7 Exit PowerPoint.
.1 Create a new Visual Basic .NET ASP.NET Web Service project, named
DentalServiceVB, and then add it to the 2310LabApplication solution:
.a On the File menu, click New, and then click Project.
.b In the Project Types list, click Visual Basic Projects. In the Templates
list click ASP.NET Web Service. Set the Location to
http://localhost/DentalServiceVB, click Add to Solution, and then
click OK.
.b In the Add Reference dialog box, on the Projects tab, double-click the
BenefitsListCS project.
.c In the Selected Components list, select the BenefitsListCS component,
and then click OK.
The component is added to the References folder in Solution Explorer.
The command window displays a series of numbers and messages, and then
returns to the command prompt. The ASPState and tempdb databases have
been restored.
.4 Close the command prompt, and then open Windows Explorer.
.5 Browse to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\MSDNTrain\2310\LabFiles\Lab16\VB\Starter
.6 Double-click Lab16.bat.
This batch file runs an SQL query that configures security for the ASPState
and tempdb databases.
