Cognitive Development Activities

Children learning and development requires the exposure to proper environment that

sparks their interest. The environment also needs to be fun enough to provide children with the

right attitude towards knowledge acquisition. It also improves on their cognitive skills. A

conducive environment is also important in improving the interpersonal skills of learners. In line

with the insights, there is the need to develop the ABC Community Child Development Center.

The facility will cater for learning needs of children and adolescents. The narrative seeks to

expound on the proposal detailing about the programming for infants, toddlers, early childhood,

middle to late childhood and adolescence. I wish for your expert opinion on the specific rooms.

The main goals for the center include to boost the physical, cognitive and psychosocial

development

ROOM #1 – Infant Room

Physical Development Activity

While dealing with infants, the activity will entail a sit-up activity. The children will be

made to lie down and sit up. The activity will be done outside on the grass where the infants will

also have a proper interaction with the natural environment (Mossler, 2014). The developmental

milestone addressed by the activity will be to improve upon the sitting capability of the infants.

Since the infants are aged 0-1 year, it will be appropriate in terms of improving on their

development.

Cognitive Development Activity

The activity will involve teaching the infant some basic words such as “ma” and “ba.”

The words will be important in terms of improving on the ability of the infants to learn more

words, especially in light with continued interactions that they have for one another. The activity

will enable them to build on their speech capabilities as will be expected of an infant (Riddlej.

2007).

Psychosocial Development Activity

As it pertains to the psychosocial development of the infants, the activity will involve

making funny faces at them to make them laugh. The activity will enable them to attain a

positive attitude and improve on their ability to interact well with one another (Misssmith891,

2011). The activity will be based on the milestone of making infants be more comfortable around

other people.

ROOM #2 – Toddler Room

Physical Development Activity

The activity involved in the room for toddlers will be playing a soft ball with them where

they kick, bounce, hit and catch it (Bodrova, et al., 1996). The activity will be important in

boosting their playing skills. It is also aligned to their age of 1-3 three years where they will be

able to use their hands and legs to play.

Cognitive Development Activity

The room will entail making children sing to the words that make up the alphabet and

basic numbers (National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, 2008). It will be important

in making them recall the letters and numbers. The milestone addressed by the activity will be

the ability to learn about basic numbers and letters. It will improve on their basic understanding

of words.

Psychosocial Development Activity

The toddlers will be made to stand and sing as they tap on the hands of the toddler

opposite to them. The action will aim to improve on their psychosocial skills (Mossler, 2014).
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES 4

Since they are 1-3 years, the activity will cover the milestone of enabling the toddlers to learn

about the importance of cooperation with one another.

ROOM #3 – Early Childhood Room

Physical Development Activity

The activity involves making the early childhood learners dance to a given set of music

that is played to them. it will enable them to use part of their bodies to dance (National Scientific

Council on the Developing Child, 2008). The milestone covered by the activity pertains to

making the learners make a physical response to a rhythm that they encounter.

Cognitive Development Activity

Pertaining to cognitive development, the process will entail reading to learners basic

English words such as table, chair and teacher. The words will need to accompany the images to

improve their understanding (Mossler, 2014). The activity will be tied to the milestone of making

early childhood learners have a better understanding of the basic words that they are bound to

encounter in their lives.

Psychosocial Development Activity

The class will involve having the learners stand in front of the room in turns to read some

words. It will enable them to be more willing to stand in front of other people (Neville et al.,

2008). The activity will cover the milestone of making early childhood learners to improve on

their confidence in the process of psychosocial development.

ROOM #4 – Middle/Late Childhood Room

Physical Development Activity

The activity will involve having the middle-to-late childhood learners participate in a

short soccer match. The action will be to enable the learners acquire the skills to apply the

various parts of their body to play properly. The activity will cover the milestone of making the

learners be more willing to use their physical capabilities to deliver a task.

Cognitive Development Activity

The activity will entail the having the learners read a set of sentences and short stories. It

will be important to expose them to a wide range of simple vocabulary and sentence structures

(National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, 2008). It will cover the milestone of

making the learners more competent in reading a wide range of sentences.

Psychosocial Development Activity

The activity will entail having students tell personal stories such as a reflection of their

holiday experience in front of the classroom. The aim will be to improve on the psychosocial

skills of the learners and make them more confidence. It will address the milestone of making

students be ready to speak in front of others.

ROOM #5 – Adolescence Room

Physical Development Activity

The class will involve having the adolescents engage in a baseball match. It will be

important in terms of making the adolescents more effective in their application of skills

(National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, 2008). The activity will address the

milestone of making the adolescents more outstanding in the sport.

Cognitive Development Activity

The activity will entail having the students read a poem and take part in its analysis. The

activity will be important in making the learners more competent in understanding and analysis

of poems (Riddlej, 2007). The activity will cover the milestone of making the learners well

informed on how to analyze poems.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES 6

Psychosocial Development Activity

The activity will entail having the students sit in groups and discuss about the themes of a

story earlier on read in class (Diachenko, 2011). The activity will be important in making the

learners more expressive. It will cover the milestone of making the learners more capable of

airing out the views that they have in front of others without fear.

Conclusion

I take this chance to thank the council for the time you have given me. There are five

classes that include; Infants, toddlers, early childhood, middle to late childhood and adolescence.

Each group shows the physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs. It details on the effect that the

different classes are likely to have on the learning process of a child.
