Eportfolio assignment #2

Web-Based Resources

After looking over the three web-based resources, Kahoot, Nearpod and Plickers; they all
are useful resources that teachers could use in their classrooms. I chose Kahoot to incorporate a
3rd grade level assignment featuring SOL 3.9 Earth Patterns, Cycles and Change. (VDOE::Science
Standards, 2018).

Nearpod
Nearpod is a website where teachers are connected with their students in interactive
lessons. Teachers can load assessments and lessons from their computers library and share with
students. Students then, sign in using a pin number and can complete the assignments working at
their own pace. Students have easy access sharing answers and submit for grading. This allows
teachers to respond to students and provide them with feedback on their assignments. Teachers
could use Nearpod in their classrooms to submit a live reading lesson with questions relating to a
story; teachers can respond to answers indicating what sections of the story to look over if the
student needs more response to their answer. (Nearpod-How it Works, 2016).

Plickers
Plickers is a website that allows you to create a class with various activities for students to
be able to use. Teachers can create cards with questions for students that can be true/false or
multiple choice for students to answer. These questions can be played in a game and can be played
with a phone or iPad and it will project on a computer. The teacher reads the students answers
around the room as their cards are scanned with their answers by the teachers’ phone or iPad.
Teachers can review the students answered as they are recorded through the scanning process.
Teachers could use Plickers in a classroom to review for a test or quiz. (Video Overview of
Plickers, 2017).
Kahoot
Kahoot is a website that teachers can use to create questions for assessments or review
before a test. These questions can be put in game form in true/false or multiple choice and can
be played by students and used as a tool for learning while competing for top position all while
being timed by a buzzer. (What is Kahoot!?, 2016).

Synopsis
I chose Kahoot’s website because I think students enjoy having fun while learning and
this website gives the feel of being in a game. Teachers could use Kahoot to make questions on
homework, assessment or even use as proper requirements for classroom rules. There is a lot of
things that Kahoot could be used. What I found rewarding was that students would be actively
engaged in learning with tis website and as a teacher, I could take data on the answers they got
wrong and use it to review more. What I found challenging about this website was trying to
come up with a variety of test questions based on SOL’s. Third grade questions were easy to
think of off the top of my head, but in older grades, you would have to know the material or be
able to research for harder lever questions. The next time I use this application, I would try
discussion questions, surveys or even matching.
