APPLIANCE DESIGN

Appliances should be simple, of minimal bulk and adequate strength. It is a


mistake to try to undertake a large number of tooth movements with a single appliance.

COMMONLY USED APPLIANCE DESIGNS


Median diastema
Active components: finger springs on 1 1 (0.6 mm).

Retention: adams clasps on 6 6 (0.7 mm).

Anchorage: reciprocal.

Baseplate: simple.

Create space for incisors


Active components: finger springs on 2 2 (0.6 mm).

Retention: adams clasps on 64 46 (0.7 mm).

Retraction of canines

Baseplate: an anterior bite plane is usually necessary to relieve occlusal


interference and reduce the overbite if deep.
