JOB DESCRIPTION

I JOB TITLE: Youth Director

II WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible and agreed upon with the Senior Pastor. Normally
would include Sunday morning 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sunday evening 5:00 p.m. to
8:00 p.m., meetings with the Senior Pastor, and planning and telephone time throughout
the week. May be asked to participate in non-weekend activities such as youth mission
trip or recreational trips.

III HOURS PER WEEK: An average of 10 hours, including Sunday mornings.

IV RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops, coordinates, and leads the United Methodist


Youth Fellowship programs for this church to include requesting of facilities. Works
with youth coordinator/church members to facilitate all aspects of youth program. Works
with parents, volunteer sponsors and youth leaders to provide programming and
recreation for the Sunday night UMYF meetings. Leads youth activities that support
church services and programs. Participates with the youth in community service projects,
fund raising and recreational activities. Serves as a resource and advocate for Christian
activities outside the UMYF such as church camps, rallies, and District/Conference with
specific participation and support (District Youth Professionals meetings).

V. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Age: minimum 23 years old.
B. Church Involvement: Baptized Christian active in a local church.
C. Experience: Active participation as a youth in a church youth program or
previous experience as a youth director.
D. Knowledge: Desires to gain information about United Methodist goals and
traditions as they apply to youth programs. Desires to gain information about
church sponsored activities and opportunities for Christian youth in our area.
E. Education: College degree desired, but not required.
F. Personal Skills: Responsible, mature and trustworthy. Ability to be a leader and
role model for the youth at BUMC. Ability to work with the congregation to help
meet the youth program needs of BUMC. Outgoing personality, natural leader,
excellent communication skills, and ability to relate to both youth and adult
volunteers.
G. Lifestyle consistent with Social Principles of the United Methodist Church.

VI. DUTIES: Under the direction of the Senior Pastor and in conjunction with the
coordinator performs as follows:
A. Directs parent volunteers, Youth Education Coordinator, and sponsors who assist
with the UMYF program.
B. Plans, coordinates and leads the UMYF program.
C. Maintains a listing of, and contact with, all youth eligible for participation in the
UMYF program at BUMC.
D. Maintains a list of church and community sponsored Christian activities and
opportunities for youth.
E. Is available to parents and youth on Sunday mornings and participates with the youth
during Sunday morning activities as required, including Sunday School.
F. Leads youth in discipleship, worship service, fund raising, and recreational activities.
G. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

VII. JOB RELATIONS:


A. Employed by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
B. Supervised by the Senior Pastor.
C. Meets regularly with the Senior Pastor.

VIII. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:


A. Application must include a resume, a pastoral reference and a personal reference
from a non-family member.
B. Completed BUMC application.
C. Criminal background check through the Southwest Texas Annual Conference.
D. Child-Youth Safety Policy Training at BUMC.
