10.10.10 – NOTES

1. You shall have no other gods before me.

2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in
heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth
generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who
love Me and keep My commandments.

3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him
guiltless who takes His name in vain.

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your
work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no
work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant,
nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made
the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh
day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which
the Lord your God is giving you.

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor
his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your
neighbor’s.”
There are more than 3000 PROMISES in the Bible about your life and my life. Here are 10 of
my personal favorites:

Promise #1: Security
Isaiah 43:1-3a But now, this is what the LORD says–he who created you, O Jacob, he who
formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name;
you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass
through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not
be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3 “For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One
of Israel, your Savior.

No matter what happens in our life, our future is secure. God has redeemed us. He keeps us
safe. He is our God. He’s bigger than our fears and more powerful than our enemies.

Promise #2: Foundation
1 Peter 5:10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to
His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, establish, strengthen and settle you.

Change is all around us. The culture is changing, the seasons are changing, our lives our
changing. Even truth is changing, according to the world. But God is unchanging. He is our
firm foundation, restoring, establishing strengthening and settling us.

Promise #3: Forgiveness
Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like
scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like
wool.

No matter how stained we are, how rotten we feel, how bad we’ve messed up, there is
forgiveness in God. For free.

Promise #4: Presence
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do
not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Feeling disconnected from the world, like no one is there for you? God promises to be with us
wherever we go, whenever we are. God promises His presence.

Promise #5: Rest
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

In a world full of stress and things that just have to be done, where can we find rest? Jesus
offers it freely.
More Promises from God:

Promise #6: FAVOR - Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of
those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Promise #7: RIGHT STANDING 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

who believes in me will live, even though he dies;
Promise #9: DIRECTION - Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the
LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

MY FAVORITE 10:10 SCRIPTURE

John 10:10 (English Standard Version)

10
The thief comes only to steal and(A) kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and
have it abundantly.
The Greek word Jesus uses in John 10:10 to describe the kind of life He came to teach His
disciples is perissón, meaning "superabundant," "superfluous," "overflowing," "over and above
a certain quantity," "a quantity so abundant as to be considerably more than what one
would expect or anticipate." In short, He promises us a life far better than we could ever
envision, reminiscent of I Corinthians 2:9, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered
into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him" (see Isaiah
64:4). Paul informs us that God "is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask
or think" (Ephesians 3:20).
10.10.10 - Questions
Use these discussion questions
in your small group

1. Talk about the things you most fear in life. How does God’s promise of security in Isaiah 43
address those fears? Have you prayed to God on the basis of this scripture before
concerning the things you most feared? Talk about the results of those prayers.

2. In 1 Peter 5:10, Peter references suffering for a while. What does suffering look like in your
life? Does it help you through difficult times relying on Christ as your “firm foundation”? In
what way does it help? Does it ever seem to you that “being settled” is something you
don’t get, or won’t get, to experience? Why, or why not?

3. Have you ever felt as though you had “messed up” beyond God’s capacity, or
willingness, to forgive you? Why, or why not? How does God’s forgiveness work? Why
should God forgive us? Have you been able to share the reality of God’s forgiveness with
others? How did they respond?

4. Do you believe that “God is with you wherever you go”? Why, or why not? How does
that help you? Have you ever been uncomfortable knowing God was with you? Big
Question: What does it mean to you to “be in God’s presence”?

5. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 to come to Him, and he would “give us rest”. What does that
mean for you? Do you ever have difficulty “resting”? Talk about how you have found
“rest” in your life.

Connecting Point A personal note from Pastor Gene

So much fun Sunday morning with the Top Ten Lists! Trust you had a good time as well! I
heard that ROADIES 201 was an awesome time of teaching from Pastor Matt. A great deal
of planning and preparation went into this course, and you will get the most out of it as you
“put feet to what you heard”. If you attended, I encourage you to begin “walking out”
what you learned on Sunday morning about HEARING – READING – STUDYING –
MEMORIZING – MEDITATING – and APPLYING God’s Word. It will change your life!

Next week we begin a new 3-part series about the Holy Spirit. I am so excited about this
series! There has been nothing more powerful in my life – especially concerning getting a
deeper understanding of God’s Word – than the influence of the Holy Spirit. I urge you to
make every effort to attend all three weeks of this new series. It will have an invaluable
impact on your life!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Keep your eyes and ears open as we begin to roll
out our plans for our Thanksgiving Day activities. Last year, we prepared food for 300 and
served 780 meals! What might God do through you this year? Wow. Think about that for a
minute. Jesus modeled for us a servant’s life when he came here. He said, “the Son of Man
did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). If our leader and forgiver was so
intentional about serving, how important is it for us to serve others?

There are many ways to experience life. But the only way to experience a life of Christ-
likeness is to serve. Find a place where you can serve at Crossroads. One or two Sundays a
month can make a HUGE difference in the lives of others. And just think what a blessing you
can be to those already serving who really need your help. Peace.

Gene
