Proposal
One Day Course with theme “Gold Mining Company From Discovery to Production”

Background

Indonesia is known as an abundant country of natural resources. One of them is

mineral resources such as gold. Gold is a metal that is soft and easily forged, and its weight
depend on the type and content of other metals combined with it. In general, gold is used as
the most popular jewelry, in addition gold is also used as part of electronic components. Gold
is used as a coating for small device as a conductor of electricity in some electronic device
such as radio, television, computer and other device. Gold has corrosion-resistant properties,
a good heat conductor and supports computer data delivery systems.
The potential of gold deposits is found in almost every region in Indonesia, such as in
Sumatra Island, Riau Island, Kalimantan Island, Java Island, Sulawesi Island, Nusa Tenggara,
Maluku and Papua. According to the Geological Agency in 2015 has identified that Indonesia
has a potential gold mineral resources of 6,513 tons and reserves of 2537 tons. Even
according to Forbes International released, that Indonesia occupies the second position with
gold production in the world.
With that great resources it requires sufficient knowledge and capabilities to explore
and exploit gold in Indonesia with various sedimentary characters. Therefore it is also
necessary to share knowledge by practitioners who work in gold company for a positive
reciprocal relationship. One of the ways is by holding one day course about gold so that
students especially Geological Engineering who have interest with the gold mining is getting
knowledge how the role of Geologist at Gold Mining Company from the initial exploration
stage until after the mine was established. In addition to getting insight on this course is
expected to the Sriwijaya University Geology Engineering students can established good
relationship with practitioners and mining company.
