will undertake during this Conference is a sense of mastery potency and
a competency to achieve.

hope that those of you who are visiting our wonderful Country will have
time to enjoy the richness of the people, and the marvellous scenery that we 'native'take for granted.

May God grant you an uplifting life changing experience as you enjoy the hosting of this Conference
by the New Zealand Chinese Church Music Association. It is with a sense of grateful humility that the
Association celebrates its 23'd year of activity. From its establishment in 1989 at StAndrew's Presbyterian
Church in Howick Auckland, it has gone on to assist many migrants settle and adapt to their new lives
in this countrry through singing together and caring for each other. In April 1993 the Oratorio Choir was
formed at St David's Presbyterian Church Khyber Pass Rd Auckland, and the association has been a
leader in developing inter-Chinese and multicultural church music experiences in the Auckland region.
Its goal has been and continues to be, to provide for the holistic development of people who walk the
Jesus Way.

Welcome to the 2l't WACCM Music Conference NZ2OL}, held for the first time in beautiful Aotearoa
New Zealand, or "Godzone" as many affectionately know our country.

The organising team led by the New Zealand Chinese Church Music Association Inc., (NZCCMA)
the local supporting churches in the Greater Auckland and its tireless chairman Elder Albert Wu have
worked hard to bring a quality faculty and programme to you. Elder Wu hails from a very Thiwanese
Presbyterian background and has a strong focus on Christian outreach through music and sport. His
son Nelson is one of the faculty.

On behalf of the organising committee, whom I have been privileged to assist in giving legal advice,
we welcome you, we thank you for travelling so far. We trust your passion for Church Music is
renewed by your experiences here and that you take away some valuable lessons to your home
churches, begin or renew friendships and have some time to enjoy some Kiwi hospitality. We
encourage you all to use your every endeavour to encourage your home churches to embrace the
worshipful passion and discipline of the music ministry promoted at this Conference.

The 2lstWACCM Music Conference NZ20I2 is holding its special conference in church music in New
Zealand from July 1l - 15.

All concemed with organizing this conference are to be congratulated on what looks to be a most
stimulating and interesting programme. The conference will be of special interest to N ew Zealandchurch
musicians as the programme includes involvement in the latest trends in choral music and hymnology
with our own musicians and hymn writers.

About l-to Loh

Born in 1936 in Taiwan, the Rev. I-to Loh is a graduate of Tainan Theological College and Seminary
(M.Div.), Union Theological Seminary in New York (SMM in Composition), and University of
California at Los Angeles (UCLA, Ph.D. in Music, majoring in Ethnomusicology).

He has taught Asian and Global Church Music, Ethnomusicology and Worship for many years at the
Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music in Manila, and at Tainan Theological College and Seminary. He
has collected and compiled over 20 collections of hymns, including Sound the Bamboo: CCA Hymnal
2000 (including 3 15 hymns from 22 countries, with 44 languages). He was named a Fellow of the
Hymn Society of America andCanadaln 1995.

Rev. Loh after retired, continues to be the editor of the Official Hymnal of the Presblterian Church in
Taiwan, and is writing a companion to Sound the Bamboo.
