 Write different sentence types eg questions, com-
mands , statements and exclamations.
 Read and write poetry based on settings.
 Developing our use of expanded noun phrases, con-
junctions, past tense, suffixes (er and est) and adverbs
(slowly)
 Explore a text based unit on The Darkest Dark
In all writing we will be expecting children to use
cursive writing.
As Mathematicians, this term we will be focusing on
 Reading the time on an analogue clock (to 5 minute intervals for
year 2) and solving word problems about time.
 Naming and reasoning about 3D shapes.
 Using and using expanded column methods (sandwich) for addition
and subtraction. (Year 2)
 Understanding fractions and recognising equivalent fractions.
 Understanding the relationship between multiplication and division
and solve multiplication and division sums.
As readers, we are focusing on
 Reading common exception words at speed
 Recognising story language eg repeating language and will
begin to “read between the lines” to retrieve comprehen-
sion questions.
 Using expression when reading aloud.
To improve our spelling, we will
 Learn to spell common exception words by heart
alongside learning new phonic spellings.
