ANNUAL REPORT

We are happy to report the progress of this vital organization during its
29th year of operation! The popular joke is to hold steady at 29 years old
and not age. Well, here at BINBA, we are happy to be aging. BINBA
celebrates its 30th birthday in 2015 and we are thrilled!
As a non-profit organization whose mission enhances the life of hundreds
of community members and provides invaluable education to hundreds
more, we are honored to have you on our team. An organization is the
sum of its people –the clients, staff, board members, volunteers, donors –
and true success is the result of a dedicated, passionate, brave, and caring

President
group working together towards a shared vision. Henry Ford summed it Executive Director
up perfectly in his quote, “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping
together is progress. Working together is success.”
Karen Schurig, BINBA’s Founder, would be humbled to see the organization’s progress and would be grateful for your involve-
ment and support. This past year resulted in expansion in several key areas; number of programs offered, community members
served, and financial support received. These are summarized on page two for your reference. We would like to highlight the fact
that over 1700 people were reached through our 13 unique and specialized services. New to BINBA this past year was the
completion of the Brain Injury Information Handbook (available on our website and in print), a professional Speaker’s Series, and
a stroke survivor support group. Lastly, we received financial donations from more donors than ever before and hosted our most
successful Gala to date. It has truly been a great year!
What’s on the horizon for our 30th year? We have several goals this year. Our goals include increasing our community partner-
ships, expanding our concussion education program into local schools, adding a speech therapy class for stroke survivors, posting
an extensive resource list on our website, and hosting an outstanding Gala in honor of 30 years!
In this report, you will see that BINBA serves people of varying ages and injuries. These clients are ‘us’, living their lives when an
injury happened suddenly, changing their abilities and their futures. As you read about Cole, a survivor of numerous concussions
before the age of 18, remember that you made a difference in his life. Because BINBA’s existence, Cole and hundreds
cause of you and BINBAs
more last year alone, have a place to turn to when an injury challenges their
heir lives.
“Without BINBA, I probably would not be here today. I attribute BINBA to being
eing one of the reasons that I'm still alive today.” Cole Kern
titude, Kimberly Strub, President, Board of Directors
With Gratitude,
Patricia Gill, Executive Directorr

On April 12, 2014, 250 friends of BINBA gathered to raise over

$100,000 for the Karen Schurig Scholarship Fund. Emceed by Doug
McConnell, BINBA honored Dennis Gilardi, Gilardi & Co., LLC, and Scott
Rome, MD, Medical Director of California Pacific Regional Rehabilita-
tion Center for their ppersonal commitment and contribution to makingg
life better for brain injury survivors.
